Deering Catalog Excerpt: The Golden Era banjo is a unique model of the Deering line. It's designed to reproduce the most sought-after five-string banjos of the pre-war era. The unique features of the Golden Era are the thicker neck shape which creates more sustain and the deeper resonator which provides that warm gutsy tone.

This banjo offers an ebony fingerboard (this used to be a custom option). The flame Eastern hard rock maple of the neck and resonator are stained with a cremona sunburst stain. Mother-of-pearl inlays are the traditional "Hearts and Flowers" pattern.

The Maple rim is turned to traditional dimensions and mounted with a zinc flange, twenty-hole virgin bell bronze tone-ring and presto style tailpiece with careful attention to original dimensions to recreate the sound and performance traditionalists desire.

You can hear the sound of the Golden Era banjo on many albums by fine musicians such as John Hickman and Byron Berline's "Double Trouble" album, Josh Williams' "Old Town of Home" album, and on Herb Pedersen's Desert Rose Band album, "Life Goes On".

Date: Mon, 17 Sep 2001 Dear Mickey, If you'll recall, our dealings started about one year ago when we made arrangements for a trade of my Deering banjo for a new Golden Era. It took nearly six months to complete the transfer with all the mailing back and forth and so on. At any rate I received the instrument and immediately fell in love with it but I resisted the urge to tell any one how I felt until I was properly acquainted with the G. E. and could tell with authority what I truly thought.
It's been another six more months now and we have traveled to a couple of festivals together and have bonded rather well. I've received many unsolicited comments from jamming friends after a couple of songs. They usually give it a long look and tell me how good it sounds. I just eat that up because I just started playing the banjo two and a half years ago , so you know it's nothing spectacular I'm doing.
I only wanted to tell you that it was a lot of money to invest in an instrument and honestly, I was scared it might not meet the expectations I had. But tonight as I took the banjo from it's case, the maple neck reflected the lamplight, and I slung the strap over my shoulder and took hold of the neck and I realized that I can now say, without reservation, this is one of the few times in my life when the item I've paid a substantial amount of money for has turned out to be more than I could've imagined.
You should stick with these folks at Deering since it's evident they are well in touch with a business principle I haven't seen in a long time; quality that equals price.

Date: Fri, 14 Jan 2000 Mickey, Just got my new Golden Era Banjo and It's awesome! I took it out of the package here at my office and had to start playing (I of course had my picks in my pocket anticipating it's arrival today). Thanks so much for the great deal and service you gave me. I will definately pass your name onto anyone interested in acoustic instruments. If I ha ve questions or other needs I will certainly give you a buzz. Thanks again too for the additional strings. Date: Tue, 7 Dec 1999 Mickey, I went to the post office today and picked up the Golden Era. I received the pickup notice from the post office on Saturday but wasn't able to get there until today. It arrived in great shape, no evidence of mishandling. It is a super instrument, so far I'm tickled to death with it. Beautiful wood, it can certainly hold its own with any Gibson's wood. I can't comment much more than that until I play it some. I'm sure it will be the greatest. I'll get back with you on it. Mainly I just wanted to let you know that it got here in one piece and when.
