Bluegrass Banjo with Accompanying CD
by Peter Wernick

A comprehensive guide covering every aspect of bluegrass banjo playing. Takes the beginner to a professional level. Both a method book and a songbook.

"Basic right hand patterns through many advanced techniques. Information on how to buy a banjo and playing in groups. Includes an annotated discography."

Introduction:
"This is a book designed specifically to help you become a good bluegrass banjo player. Hopefully, it wilol have something in it for everyone, be they beginners with no nusical experience, or seasoned banjo players looking for new ideas.

This book will start off with the assumption that you are a beginner. If you're not, pick it up where you see fit (though you might find it worthwhile to check out the beginning anyway).

Reading this book will be something like taking lessons. That is, it will show you what to practice, and, more importantly, show you how to practice; it will not somehow automaitcally turn you into a good bluegrass banjo player. There's just no way of learning how to play this music well without lots of practice.

If you don't feel you'll have too much time to practice don't even start. Bluegrass banjo is not something you can learn halfway. It really needs some commitment, no matter how fast a learner you are. Ther are plenty of banjo and guitar styles that are fun and musically satisfying without requiring sustained effort to learn. So if you don't think you'll have time to practice much, try another style and save yourself the effort of staring and then quitting bluegrass banjo.

If, on the other hand, you think you have the time but you aren't sure, go ahead and try. If you really like what you're doing, you will start finding the time to play, even if none sweems there. You'd be surprised how much television you don't have to watch, and how much ten minutes here and fifteen minutes there can add up to, even when you lead a busy life."

Some of the techniques covered include:

2. Slides
3. Pull-Offs
