"I received my first SD-20 just last week. I can only say: What a monster dreadnaught! I'm completely and sufficiently impressed. The tonal quality matches any Martin I've ever played. I personally own a vintage M-38. Now, the SD-20 has got to be one of the best contemporary dreadnaughts being made today. I love the way Breedlove has raised the saddle height...in fact, it's one of the highest saddles I've seen on an acoustic to date. It hasn't affected the action; the action is still nice and low. What it does contribute to is volume. I've noticed this also applies to mandolin with adjustable bridges. Whenever you can raise a mandolin's bridge, while still allowing for an easy action, it seems to increase its innate volume. Now that I've seen this on the SD-20, I believe it applies to most acoustic instruments.

The SD-20 is, without a doubt, one of the loudest dreadnaughts I've ever played. Additionally, I've found the SD-20 accommodating for my flatpicking approach. I use a large dunlop flatpick that I normally have to choke to prevent it from overlapping the string and tapping the soundboard (when playing closer to the bridge away from the soundhole). With the SD-20's tall saddle, I can dig into the strings without ever touching the guitar's soundboard. This contributes to more volume and power behind every pick stroke. The SD-20 is now one of my favorite Flatpicking Guitars...If you're looking for a guitar to compete with a banjo, the SD-20 is a cannon and will easily ride on the top of any bluegrass jam session. My summation, the SD-20 is a Flatpicker's Dream Machine!"

The "S" Series Breedlove Flattop Guitars

Our most affordable models, the Breedlove "S" series guitars are built by the same skilled luthiers using the same painstaking craftsmanship that goes into every Breedlove instrument, but with minor cosmetic differences that reduce production costs. The result is a guitar with the distinctively rich sound, superb responsiveness and striking appearance that set a Breedlove apart – at a substantially lower price.

The Breedlove SC has the same dimensions as our Model C20 -- a grand concert-sized guitar with the depth of a dreadnaught for added resonance, combined with great playability. The SC20 may be order with or without the Breedlove "soft" cutaway (SC25).

For guitarists who prefer a larger instrument, Breedlove offers the Model SD20x and Model SJ20, the dreadnaught and jumbo versions of our Model SC20. The larger body size, bigger soundholes and thicker tops of these instruments produce a truly room-filling sound that balances a powerful bass with a clear, sweet treble and mid-range response.

The SD20x features Breedlove’s innovative ergonomically designed, asymmetrical neck, designed to make fingering easier and more comfortable. Or, if you prefer, you may order the SD20x with the regular Breedlove neck shape at no additional cost.

The SJ20 is an affordable handmade jumbo guitar that sounds especially impressive in the twelve-string version; it also may be ordered as a six-string. Available with the "soft" cutaway (SJ25).

All guitars in the Breedlove "S" series are priced with Walnut bodies and Sitka Spruce tops, however, all of our other wood options are available along with a wide variety of other options, including decorative inlays and electronic pick-ups, which allow you to customize your Breedlove "S" Series guitar to fit your personal tastes and playing style.
