DVD Region / PAL vs. NTSC

Subject: Re: DVD codes

Hi

Are your DVDs region free?

Thanks

Alan

Greetings Alan,

I believe we've burned them originally in Region 1 format to cover the US ... however, we've been shipping these all over the world, and to date, we haven't had any problems with anyone being able to play them ... it very well could be they're using them in their computers as opposed to running them on their TV sets; just the same, no playability complaints yet.

Let me know how else I can assist, Mickey Cochran

Subject: MANDOLIN

HI

COULD YOU PLEASE TELL US WHETHER THIS DVD WOULD PLAY IN UNITED KINGDOM.

THANKING YOU

Greetings...

You may already be aware of the differences between NTSC and PAL...even so, I'll explain this so it can be posted on our FAQ database.

In reference to "Introduction to the Mandolin": This Video, or DVD, whichever you prefer, was produced in the NTSC format. The NTSC (National Television Systems Committee) format is the standard transmission here in the states. This commission sets standards for all broadcast and video signal issues. This standard also applies to other countries including the US such as Japan and Canada. Most televisions, and video systems, under this format, play the NTSC signal. The standard transmission signal in the UK is PAL (Phase Alternating Line). This means, there's an entirely different signal requirement for videos produced on VHS and DVD media. Hence, you'll always want to make sure that any video media you purchase is in compliance with PAL. Now, it is possible for this media to be produced on PAL and then shipped to the UK. Unfortunately, our current video catalog is currently in the NTSC format. My suggestion would be to consider an adaptor for converting signal from PAL to NTSC, or, use the DVD format of "Introduction to the Mandolin" on a computer with a DVD Player.

Thanks for your interest, Mickey
