Subject: Jerry Douglas's bio

Hi Mickey,
As a part of my dobro study I am investigating other players starting with Jerry Douglas and reading about them and studying their styles. I have already picked up a couple of neat tricks from listening to Jerry's latest CD, on rolls and some slide runs as well as some fast hammer-on pull-off scale type runs. Took some concentration of my worn-out brain but listened, tried and stored them in muscle memory and now comes the practice to incorporate them into my own bag of tricks.
I went to Jerry's web site www.jerrydouglas.com and read his bio. The writer was very good and in his describing Jerry, I found a lot of similarities between him and you in your approach to music. The neat thing about both of you is that you don't confine yourself to just the music, you use it to express life and yourself.
Go read it if you haven't already, quite interesting. Just as I read your bio upon starting your DVD training, I learned a lot about your mind set about playing music.
Take care, have a great weekend.
Your friend and struggling student,
Jack
Hey Jack ... Wow! I appreciate your insight ... and am quite humbled by your take on my parallel with Jerry Douglas and our approach to music. Jerry has always been a major influence on me ... I read the bio at: http://www.jerrydouglas.com/bio.cfm and found it engrossing ... It's great to hear that he still thinks of himself as a student of the Dobro. If I live to be 90, I still hope to be a student first and foremost.
All my best,
Mickey Cochran

Subject: The Great Dobro Sessions
I already own the Great Dobro Sessions CD and have been enjoying it for many months now. I also play Dobro and am learning McHatties Waltz on my own. I was searching to see if there was any tablature out there for it and came across your website's book and cd offer. I am writing to ask if the book can be sold separately since I already own the cd.
Thanks for your fine website . . . . have been enjoying roaming around it this afternoon.
Sincerely,
Sandi L.
Greetings Sandi,
Yes, we have the book in stock without the CD...it lists at 17.95...we have a 20% discount too...however you might want to add on a few other accessories since there's a flat 5.00 shipping fee. You may call Tradd @ to place your order.
Isn't that a great CD! It was produced by Tut Taylor (we published his biography recently...see our Wisdom of the Wood titles) and Jerry Douglas...
Have fun with your Dobro studies...Mickey
Subject: jerry douglas tuning
how does jerry douglas tune his guitar- thank you, Paul
Greetings Paul,
Jerry Douglas uses a variety of tunings...although, as is true with most bluegrass squareneck dobro players, the main tuning he uses is G B D G B D...listen to "Under the Wire" and you'll hear his experimental side...his "Restless on the Farm" definitely has some out there tunings! He plays a lot of blues oriented material...I would estimate Jerry as an eclectic player more than a straight-ahead bluegrass dobroist.
Hope this helps...Mickey
