T)Subject: music to tablature
Greetings,
Hello, I have been looking for a program that would scan music, or narrow in and scan a specific instrument, and either tab it out or note it out. In other words, is there a program out there that will convert the sound waves into sheet music? any help is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
A Music Lover
Yes, there's a great notation program available that may serve your needs...it's called Sibelius...some examples of this notation software can be seen in our Online Lessons section (see below)...and, they have a separate piece of software that will scan in the music to be read by Sibelius...which can then be converted to tab on your instrument of choice. Be aware, it's not perfect and you will have to figure out problem areas...such as positioning, inversions, etc.

Subject: Banjo Notes to Tab conversion
Good evening
Greetings Darrald,
I was wondering if you know where I can get a chart that would help convert Banjo Sheet Music to Tablature.
My suggestion would be to look at the standard notation and tab program: Sibelius...with this software, you can scan in single line standard notation, convert it to a digital piece of music, and convert standard notation to tablature...
Be aware, the fingering will still need to be modified any time you convert standard notation to tab...
Mickey
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks

Subject: Tab software
Hi,
Greetings Elizabeth,
I was wondering if you might have a recommendation for software for tablature. What I am looking specifically for is a program that will allow you to scan sheet music into it and turn that into tab. Do you have any suggestions? From my research so far, it seems that Finale guitar might be the best choice, but unfortunately the demo they allow you won't access that function. I am looking for a program that would do both guitar and mandolin.
Thanks for your time
Elizabeth
Yes...I have both Finale and Sibelius...Finale seems to be a fully comprehensive notation software program...I currently use Sibelius...which seems to be everything I need for compilations on tab and standard notation. You can find an example of Sibelius notation at the following URL:

I'm putting up some mandolin tablatures today or tomorrow that will also be generated by Sibelius.
And, yes, Sibelius offers a separate program for scanning and converting to tablature. Even so, it still takes quite a bit of doctoring to bring it up to par...as is true when converting from standard notation to tablature.

Best of luck to you in your research efforts, Mickey
Has there been any John Denver music converted into mandolin tab?
Thanks
Not that I've seen...it's a great idea though...
