First, what is best standard C tuning or open C tuning, and what are the movable chord positions, so that I can vamp.

Glad to assist Rocky...only, which instrment are you referring to...banjo, guitar, dobro, etc.

C Tuning for guitar could be:

From low to high : D G C G C D

This is the C tuning I use which is the same used on the "Rain Song" by Led Zeppelin.

Now, there are many other possibilities for C Tuning...for instance, the C chord is made up of C, E and G...therefore, you could experiement and find your own C tunings based on this major Triad.

There's also the D tuning of: D A D F# A D...which can be lowered a whole step for C: C G C E G C...however, this may be very low and cause some rattling and buzzing...
