This is the most solidly-made mandolin tailpiece ever designed...
Includes a Lifetime Replacement Warranty - Made in the U.S.A.

A Precision Machined Billet Mandolin Tailpiece...made out of solid brass and designed to fit most all mandolins.

Locks Down Your Mandolin Strings:

With this new "String-Lock" System, you never have to worry about your mandolin strings coming loose from the tailpiece. This tailpiece offers 8 individual allen screws that tighten from the top down. These screws are threaded from the top and bottom of the tailpiece...the screws mount your mandolin strings by passing through the loop ends to ensure that the string ends remain in place. No more having your strings come out of your tailpiece as you attempt to string up your mandolin. Once the string is locked down, you can string up your mandolin at the tuning machines without the loop end falling out. Additionally, the loop end is held tight behind a cylindrical post as opposed to a sharp tang as found on most common mandolin tailpieces. This ensures that the loop end stays round and does not crease; the tangs on most mandolin tailpieces will crease and bend the loop end. The "String-Lock" system requires a .050 Allen Wrench which is included with the purchase of the tailpiece. Again, this is a "lock down" system...hence, you cannot change a string without the .050 Allen Wrench.

Offers sustainable tone for your mandolin!:

The Mystic West Mandolin Tailpiece may increase sustain due to its heavy brass construction. This depends on the model of mandolin you're installing it on. The angle is further pulled down to amplify the tension on the mandolin bridge. This ensures that all the vibration possible is being absorbed by your mandolin bridge further transcribing more vibration than average to your mandolin's top.

Easy to Install and Use:

Installs on most mandolin with only three screws. The end pin will fit in the center hole position. All 8 strings can be individually removed or installed. Offers a top access for Allen Screws that individually lock down each string's loop end. When installing your strings, you only need to install the back four first, on the tailpiece...followed by the front four positioned Allen Screws. (See Below for String Arrangement) Installs with original screws that come with your mandolin's current tailpiece. Includes a full instruction sheet for easy step-by-step installation along with a companion .050 Allen wrench.

Available in Antique Brass, Polished Brass (Shiny Gold) or Nickel Plated:

We offer our Mystic West Tailpiece in a variety of 3 different colors.
1. The Antique Brass (Brushed Brass)...this is a very natural look. It has a rough tough look while still having an overall elegant gold appearance. It has that gold prospecting nugget look. A dull gold color that looks very natural and still harmonizes well with a gold hardware mandolin.
2. The Polished Brass (Shiny Gold)...this is a standard look for a gold hardware instrument. If you have gold-plated hardware, this look will go well with all the other metal parts of your mandolin. For this is a shiny gold appearance even though it's solid brass without any plating. The biggest advantage with polished brass is that you never have to worry about your plating wearing off and having a discolored look. Standard gold plating almost always eventually wears showing patches of dullness with shininess. Our Polished Brass will eliminate this problem for as long as you own your mandolin. And, if you ever do have any tarnishing, it can easily be polished again and look brand new...whereas, gold plating would require re-plating.
3. The Nickel-Plated Brass (Shiny Silver)...this is a standard look for a nickel hardware instrument. Our nickel plating is solidly plated at a very high grade. We guarantee our plating to last you a lifetime and always show well on your mandolin for a lifetime (with a full 100% replacement warranty).

Colors Shown Below are on the Diamond Tailpiece...all of these below colors are also available on the Eclipse.

Hardware Mandolins
Dull Gold (brush brass) for Gold

Hi again, I just purchased the used F-9 then saw the ad for the Mystic West tailpiece. I spoke with Tradd and he was very helpful but, apparently you don't have these on hand. What mando's have you tried these on ? Good for bluegrass, or not? What do you think of putting one on the F9?

SjP

Greetings SjP,

So far, I've only tried this on an MK Legacy O...and, it took the twanginess out of it while adding sustain. Since this particular mandolin doesn't have a chop to start, it was hard to assess with the Mystic West Tailpiece on whether it would contribute to a better chop or not.

We still need to test one of these on a bluegrass mandolin such as the F-9 to see if there's any improvement in tone. As assessed so far, there was a definite improvement on the lower end imports. The tone seemed to deepen, offer more sustain and have far less twangy highs. I was really impressed with this myself. So much so, that I'm considering keeping the Legacy O, with the Mystic West tailpiece preinstalled, as my own kick around mandolin. The sustain was amazing...now, it did seem to have less resonating tinniness...which I'm not sure some players are looking for...such as that "openness in tonal range" that Celtic players are looking for...

You might want to hold tight for the video samplers on this one...we hope to have something up by next week...we'll be comparing the Mystic West Tailpiece to models with their standard tailpieces...and also, we hope to compare them on some higher end models. One thing that really is nice, is the "String Lock" system...that ensures that the loop-ends stay in place when changing strings. Probably the only one I've ever seen and certainly the only one I've ever used like this...

Hope this helps, Mickey

James:

Thank you for your follow up. I have purchased an MK FS. I am however intrigued by your tailpiece recommendation. Does it really produce 30% more sustain?? Should the (other tailpiece options that are one-piece cast) also not take out the abrasive treble? Let me know what you think there. I will wait to hear back from you before purchasing either. Also, does the Mystic fit stock holes on the MK's or do they need to be relocated??

Thank you for your insight. Best, Noah

Noah,

Most all other solid-type, one-piece tailpieces are cast which means they are created with liquid metal poured into a sand-cast molding. This means there are holes, within the content of the metal...somewhat porous...of which, in turn, will create unnecessary vibration making your mandolin susceptible to losing tonal quality. The idea behind BILLET even though it costs more, is that it has zero imperfections within its base metal content; this will give you more sustain and better tone quality than any other tailpeice on the market (unless it's billet-machined). If you look at our Mystic West info page, the tailpeice on the MK reveals that there are no relocation holes; the Mystic West String-Lock™ system can be installed in less then 15 minitues. If someone told you to put this tailpeice on and it will sound closer to a $1000 plus american-make, would you do it? If yes, then rest assured when I say: this is the BEST mandolin tailpeice on the market today, and it will be for a long time.
