Fingerpicking Mandolin: Chordal Study 2 with Fingerpicking Pattern 4

This chordal study follows the same progression as "Don't Let Your Deal Go Down" (a great version of this can be heard by Doc Watson). Notice the first measure where the C walks down into the A chord. This is quite common in ragtime progressions. Notice that this is in the key of C...yet, the chord progression starts out on the A chord. Most key centers of songs can be easily determined by the very last chord played at the end of the song. So, remember this whenever you encounter a ragtime piece. Other tunes that have similar deceptive key centers would be "Alabama Jubilee" and "Sweet Georgia Brown".

Notes: Be sure to first learn the progression itself with a flatpick...so that you're completely comfortable with the changes. And, since you've already memorized our 4 Fingerpicking Patterns in previous lessons, you should be well prepared to tackle this study.

Picking Hand: T = Thumb • I = Index Finger • M = Middle Finger
