5-String Banjo Specific Sites

Dr. Banjo: Peter Wernick's wonderful website. Peter is the consummate 5-string artist. He's one of my all-time favorite banjo players...be sure to listen to the early stuff from "Country Cooking" where he played banjo duets alongside Tony Trischka...still, very inspiring to hear to this very day! Mickey

Greg Gilbert's 5-String Sampler: Greg Gilbert had one of the coolest banjo tab books ever written...we've been trying to get him to reprint it.

Banjo Haven

Bill Palmer's Banjo Setup I have a very effective method for setting up a Mastertone™ type banjo. As I describe it, I will explain the history and science behind the whole thing. Although the emphasis here is on bluegrass banjo, the principles work on other banjos as well.

5-String Banjo Banjo Tune Index
About 20 years ago in Hawaii, I indexed all the tunes in the numerous 5-string banjo tab books I'd collected, and I published that list as the "Banjo Tune Catalog." I've added many additional books since then, and the result is this on-line Banjo Tune Index (BTI), with over 3,800 tabs listed from over 90 songbooks. (Thanks to Paul Hawthorne and others for sending me new listings!)

Acoustic Guitar Specific Sites

Guitar Lessons - Google PR 2 Blog Lots of excellent material on chordal studies for guitar. Here's a great example: Suspended

"This lesson uses suspended chords which are comprised of either the 1st, 2nd and 5th notes of the scale (sus 2) or the 1st, 4th and 5th notes of a scale (sus 4). Sometimes a sus 4 in one key will be a sus 2 in another key. For example, G sus 2 is D sus 4.

Let's construct a C sus 2 chord. First, we know the G scale is composed of the C, D, E, F, G, A and B notes. Therefore, the C sus 2 chord is made up of the C, D, and G notes. How about a C sus 4 ? It is composed of the C, F and G notes."
