Here's our second arpeggio study...this one introduces the "pinch" where two pairs of strings (the A and E pairs) are struck simultaneously. This one technique is what truly distinguishes fingerpicking the mandolin from flatpicking the mandolin. Once you feel comfortable with the first couple of measures, you'll find that the rest of the study will come easier...for, the pattern repeats itself throughout these chord progressions.
Goals: 1. To keep an even tempo. 2. To hit only the strings designated in the sheet music. 3. To gain facility with alternating between the thumb and index fingers. 4. To learn how to switch over to other strings without faltering or accidentally hitting other strings. 5. To gain the coordination between the left and right hands. 6. To memorize fingerpicking patterns that can be applied to other chord progressions.
