Squarneck Dobro: Pull-Offs and Hammer-Ons

Date: Thu, 16 Sep 2004 10:38:38 EDT
Subject: Hammer-on's, Pull-off's

An additional question:
I have been looking on your website for a basic hammer-on and pull-off technique for dobro, but can't find one. What is a good technique for producing good sound with h/o's & p/o's? Forgive me if this sounds like a simplistic question, but I am a piano/guitar/mandolin player that is trying to learn and it's new to me.

Thanks,
Mark Wesley

Mark, these techniques require a personal instructor, or a good instructional video...our two-part series, on squareneck dobro, teaches these techniques thoroughly:

This is not a simplistic question...hammer-ons and pull-offs require some proper bar positioning and agility...that can only be taught properly through visual means. I can't imagine a book that can communicate how to accomplish these techniques...

Wishing you the best in your research efforts, Mickey
