Mountain Dulcimer: Bringing out more Bass End

Date: Tue, 07 Sep 2004 11:33:57 -0400
Subject: Re: Fwd: Baritone Uke and Dulcimer

Is there any way to tune a baritone ukulele to a tenor guitar or tenor banjo tuneings?
Also, what kind of strings should I use to make my dulcimer have more of a bass pitch?

Thank You, Joshua

Hi Joshua:

A Baritone Uke and a Tenor guitar are tuned alike. They both use the top 4 notes of the standard guitar E, B, G, D.
The standard Dulcimer tuning is usually in the key of D. If you want to leave it at that pitch there's not much you can do other than
trying some different strings. Try guages .012. .012, .014, .026. The brand DR makes a compressed wound string that gives an improved bass response. You can always set
up your Dulcimer in lower keys which will also improve bass.
