Subject: Older Banjo

Hi, I enjoy your site very much! I was told if a Banjo has the pegs sticking out on the side of the head instead of out the back it was an older cheaply made Banjo! Is this true? Do you sell 5th string gear pegs? Thank You!

Greetings,

No, this isn't true...there are some very nice banjos being made today with the tuning machines "sticking out of on the side of the head" (also known as guitar tuning machines installed on a banjo)...the traditional tuning machines used on a banjo are called Planetary Tuners and are reverse...they stick out of the back of the head...

Many new banjos are being made with guitar tuning machines such as the Deering Boston...or some of the Gold Tones. They work well and do no necessarily degrade the banjo...only, they're not traditional...and they're not as easily accessible as the Planetary Tuners.

Yes, we sell the 5th string geared tuners...they run from 12.00 to 18.00...
