Learning More than One Instrument

Subject: More than one instrument?

Folkwood,

I was just wondering, is it bad to try and learn more
than one instrument at a time. I am thinking about
learning more than one and I was just wondering if it
would hinder my progress or something.

Thank you for your time,

Jenna

Greetings Jenna,

It can be somewhat confusing to attempt to learn two instruments at once, as a beginner...additionally, without the focus on one instrument, it would take you at least twice as long as average to learn each instrument. By focusing all of your energies on one instrument, you're going to grow and see progress more readily. You're liable to become frustrated attempting to learn two instruments at once since you'll have twice the hurdles. I always recommend learning one at a time...and once you feel somewhat comfortable on one instrument, learning a second instrument becomes easier...by attempting to learn two instruments at once, you're going to find it overwhelming, and you're going to encounter sluggish progress...enjoy the learning journey, learn one instrument at a time...and, yes, I highly recommend learning more than one instrument...only, I still believe focusing on one at a time and use each instrument you learn as a stepping stone for the next...I've spread myself very thin as a multi-instrumentalist over the years....and, I can only remember taking on each instrument individually...Mickey
