Hi Mickey,
My 9-yr old has been taking lessons for about a year. I bought her a Galveston Acoustic/electric guitar.
The body of the guitar has a crack from the bottom, following the grain, all the way up to the ring around the hole (I'm a pianist - and not a good one at that - so the definitions and descriptions of the guitar are not in my repetoire). Plus there is a crack in the neck near where it joins the body, but the crack is not in the glued joint or in where the 2 pieces of wood are glued together to form the neck.
A buddy of mine is a pro (teaches and performs) and he claims he has NEVER seen this. I asked if it was from trauma, but he found no evidence of that. The original crack has gotten longer and wider over the past month.
I bought it new for $100. Guess it was too good to be true, eh? Did I just have bad luck or have there been problems with Galvestons or did my dealer see the small crack and unload it on an unsuspecting customer?
Any thoughts?

Greetings Fran,
It should have some type of warranty...usually these types of imports offer a 1-year warranty...since you purchased new, you may still be protected...if not, it may still serve well as a student level guitar...as long as the cracks do not get progressively worse or affect the playability...
Galvestons are mass produced and sold through larger retail chains such as Hastings...for the price, they are a decent value...usually, all imports require some set-up before they're playable...unfortunately, most retail chains are not prepared to ensure an instrument is set up for playability...if you purchased through a guitar shop retailer, then it more than likely was set up properly...I'm sure your retailer will help you out with this...we, ourselves offer a lifetime warranty with every instrument we ship including imports no matter what the original manufacturer warranty states...
Best of luck with your research efforts, Mickey
