5-String Banjo: Flatpicking Technique...Flatpicking a 5-String Banjo

Date: Mon, 15 Mar 2004 20:19:08 EST

Hello,

I just want to know if it would be easier playing flatpick 5 string banjo with an open-back or a resonator banjo? Also, if you would, I would like some websites on playing 5 string banjo with a flatpick please.

If you will be strumming alot...I'd recommend the open-back...there will be less reverberation on strums...where the succession of notes can become mighty muddy...

I know of not one site that promotes or includes info on flatpicking a 5-string banjo...now, we do have many lessons ourselves that may assist you in your efforts...there are many flatpicking techniques taught for 6-string banjo of which can be easily converted to 5-string by tuning to the guitar tuning of: D G B E...

Check out the crosspicking patterns for Guitar...these would work well when flatpicking a 5-string banjo...and, if you're using open G tuning, check out the 5-string banjo rolls...which can be accomplished with a flatpick too...just not as fast...Mickey
