Greetings Mark,
Glad to assist,

Good morning. My project is a 12 string dobro. I have an old OMI brass body to which I would like to marry a Martin 12 string neck. My question is - the OMI body has a slot cut for the neck stick .75 of an inch wide and 1.5 inches high. I would rather not alter this slot, in the interest of preservation of the body, but I am concerned about the strength of the neck joint. I presumed I would make it a single bolt bolt on neck with a reciever block on the inside, to which I would attatch the neck stick. There doesn't seem to be much info out there regarding dobro neck attatchment, and I was wondering if you could help.
Sincerely,
Mark Helms

Well, this is an undertaking...and, I'd have to say that I wouldn't really know where to start on a project of this nature. I do know others that have manufactured 12-string dobros...and I would be happy to connect you with them...
Mark Taylor of Crafters of Tennessee has made these and will know the inherent challenges and problems of constructing a 12-string Dobro...and, I'm sure he'd be happy to confer with you on this project. It wasn't long ago when I asked him myself about reintroducing a Crafters 12-String Dobro...of which he said that he can make a custom one whenever I'm ready. I, personally, believe the market is now ready for a 12-String Dobro; there are many dobro players who already know the fretboard language and are looking for a different voice...and the 12-String Dobro would be the answer.
