Thread-Topic: Beginning Mandola Video from Mickey Cochran

I loved that video. I wish you would put that on DVD, I don't want my tape to ever break. Can Mr. Corchran ever do an advanced mandola video. Very pleased with the product, tons of good information in there.

Subject: Walnut Banjos

Greetings, FOTW:

Your site, and particularly the video samplers, has been enormously helpful to me in discriminating between many of the banjos currently available. I'm pretty sure I've viewed all the relevant pages on your site (inc. FAQs as well as manufacturer sites), but I'd appreciate your input on something I still feel a bit ignorant about. I love the tone (and look) of walnut, but haven't been able to hear/play each of the makes I'm interested in. I'm considering the Stelling Bellflower (with a Tony Pass "Lost Forest" rim), an RB-4, Wildwood's Walnut Artist, and possibly a Tennessee Walnut.

I absolutely must see tabs for Jesu, Joy of Man's
Desiring, as you played it in Trinity College Octave
Mandolin (New Mic) Video Sampler #2. I've looked all
over the web and haven't found an arrangement that
sounds as nice to my ears.

Also, I was wondering, what is the song you are
playing in the Gibson F-9 video sampler #1?

Thanks for your time!
-Dave.

Hi, FOTW! I just wanted to let you know that I received the
mandolin in record time and I'm very satisfied with the
instrument. The set-up was immaculate and I was surprised to
find that you included a hardshell case, though that wasn't
advertised in the auction description. Tell your luthier that
this customer was very pleased with the playability of the
mandolin. Thanks! I'll certainly give you folks a positive recommendation
at the Ebay site and to my fellow musicians in this area.

Hi fotw,

I recently received a new Weber Bitterroot from you guys. It was purchased
under my roommates name - Gary Williams. It is a standard model. Just
wanted to let you know it is outstanding! The tone is awesome, action
great, and I am in awe every time I pick it up. It has the perfect sound to
play about anything, but loud enough to be Bluegrass workhorse. I have
played a lot of cheaper mandos over the years and I am really glad I moved
up a few notches. This mandolin has made my playing/practicing a whole
different experience. You guys were really great to work with on this
purchase and really helpful.

Thanks,

Jim Ellis
Richmond, VA

I own 2 Webers and am always in awe whenever I remove them from their cases: a Big Sky Octave and a Big Sky Mandola.
Thanks for the positive update Jim...be sure to call us if you ever need anything at all. And, Keep on Pickin', Mickey

James,
Thank you very much for the pick gauge change. I am
enjoying the wonderful Gold Tone mandolin so very
much. I plan to order some more instructional videos,
books, etc. in the future.

Again, thank you for all your help. I'm very pleased
with Folk of the Wood and will recommend your firm to
others for their musical needs.

If you can give me a call here at the store that would be great and
we can go over some details.

I enjoyed talking with you and look forward to continuing to do business
with your group of nice people! It is comforting to work with people
who are interested in assuring the 'good fit' of their customers to
their important 'hobby' instruments. It is good to know that there
is 'no risk involved' in doing business 'over the net'.

Thanks again for your help.

And best wishes to all at Folk of the Wood!

Hello, Tradd,
First, I would like to thank you for taking the time to assist me in the selection of a mandolin. It was very helpful to have a musician on the line and not just a salesman. I appreciate the help.

I was hoping that the mando (Kentucky KM 675, used) would arrive today. You had mentioned that it would ship by Wednesday, and we arranged for two-day delivery. Could you please let me know when and how the mando shipped so I can check with the post office?

Thanks.

Best regards;

Mickey,

Thanks so much for contacting Andrew Instrument
regarding their Resonator Guitars. I found their tel.
Number on Jerry Douglas's Web page by chance and gave
them a call, I am quite anxious to see this Elite
Maple model, really sounds like it might be a great
guitar. You offer an excellent choice of instruments
and accessories at your music store, I Enjoyed both
volumes of your introduction to the "REALM" of the
Dobro. And "cloudy in the mountains" sounds like a tune
I wish you offered it on a CD instructional. Well
Mickey let me thank You and wish you a happy holiday
season...Joe

I just wanted to thank you, your web site has been most helpful in familiarizing me w/ the fiddle, that I just purchased.  I will be taking lessons next week, but this way I can go in there a bit more confident.

I'm really impressed by your site, and particularly the wonderful playing
on the instrument demos. I've been perseverating on the octave mandolin
demo's and am having a tough time restraining myself from just popping for
one of the trinity college octave mando's.

I have an old gibson "a" style with "the gibson" on the headstock that
dates from around 1923(i think). it has a boat style neck, i.e., a cross
section would show a "v" shape, which is somewhat less comfortable than
more modern necks. plays great however and has good tone and nice sustain.
The clip that attaches the pickguard to the body is gone, but otherwise
it's in good shape for an instrument this old. I'm curious about its value,
and would consider a trade.

I also have a pretty complete set of piano technician tools that I acquired
in the '70's that I don't use. It has a couple of tuning hammers and all
the gear for tuning and regulating pianos.

Wondered if you have any interest in this as well for trade.

By the way, the writing on the label inside the mandolin is pencil, and has
faded to the point where it's tough to read. Let me know what you think it
would be worth in trade.

Thanks,

Oscar Pelta

Dear Folk Of The Wood,
I received my order last Wednesday, November 12, 2003. You certainly
are fast. My Goodtime Banjo was ready to go right out of the box. The gig

have found your site on the internet, I wouldn't hesitate to order from you
again. Thank you so much for such prompt and excellent service.

Sincerely,

Douglas E. Knurek
