In this lesson, we are going back to the basics by exercising an essential right-hand pattern: our forward/reverse roll. We will first lay out the basic patterns involved and then apply these patterns to both chord progressions and the timeless standard: "Home Sweet Home". Some of the following exercises can be found in their entirety in the Mel Bay Publication: "Guitar Crosspicking Technique".
Before attempting the following chord progression, make sure you can comfortably play the below Forward/Reverse Roll without fretting (pun intended)--almost to the point that you no longer have to think about what your right hand is doing.
In playing the following arrangement, be very careful to pay close attention to the down/up strokes...These are critical in establishing the timing and accents.
D = Downstroke
U = Upstroke
