Mickey
Thanks for your quick response. You say you flatpick in a fingerpicking style. Would you be able to give me an example of your style in a song like "Rolling in my sweet baby's arms or Wabash Cannon Ball? Notes or tablature it doesn't matter. I'm always open to new ideas. Good luck on producing a book or video on this subject. Let me know when its done.
Thanks again.
Kevin
Greetings Kevin,
There are many examples of this approach included on our video sampler section:

Most is done on mandolin in the fingerstyle approach...and, you might find a few examples of the fingerstyle flatpicking approach on some of our 6-string banjo samplers.
We also have some written music examples of single string style on a 5-string banjo...which can be easily translated to 6-string banjo by tuning your 6-string to open G tuning: D G D G B D

Subject: Fingerpicking the banjitar

Hi Mickey,
Greetings Kevin,
I have just recently purchased a 6 string banjitar and find it to be a very unique instrument. I play guitar and do a lot of jamming with family members playing bluegrass and country. I have no problem flat picking the banjitar for most songs but I am having problems finding information or music on a fingerpicking style for the melody as the lead.
Yes, for some reason this medium and approach has been largely ignored. I play with both a flatpick and fingerpicks...and can play most anything I play with a flatpick in a fingerstyle fashion...only, I cannot imitate what I do with fingerpicks with a flatpick. Yes, lead playing can be performed effectively well with fingerpicks...some other players who have pursued fingerstyle lead playing include: Wayne Henderson, Chet Atkins, Don Reno, Eddie Adcock and Bela Fleck...why it's not popular today is beyond me...why there isn't any learning materials (that I know of) focusing on fingerstyle lead, is beyond me...the only book that comes to mind is Tommy Flint's "Fingerstyle Lead Solos" published by Mel Bay...
I hope to work on some learning materials covering this approach myself...both on video and book format...
Please stay tuned, Mickey
Do you have any suggestions????
Thanks in advance,
Kevin--
