Subject: Lessons
Folkwood,
Greetings Jenna,
My school has a guitar teacher for private lessons.
Lessons cost 10-15 dollars per half hour lesson every
1 or 2 weeks. I just wanted to ask you if you think
it's worth the money.
Most definitely! If the teacher is qualified, you will benefit immensely. There are many hurdles that can be bypassed entirely with the proper personal instruction.
Do you think private lessons
help progress enough to be worth it?
Progress will be facilitated far over and above teaching yourself. I highly recommend having a personal instructor for many reasons...some of the more important ones include:
1. Gaining good habits from the start so that you never impede your playing facility in the future...
2. Gaining a solid foundation to build your skills upon...
3. Finding inspiration to continue your studies...
4. Taking your learning process more seriously...
5. Having a road map delineated by your teacher to ensure good progress...
6. Keeping your advancement in check to ensure that you do not attempt to advance when not prepared (which is a major frustration for many beginners attempting to teach themselves)
Otherwise I would
just try and teach myself with guitar books. I have an
old acoustic and I got through most of the basic
chords and then sorta hit a plateau. Do you think
lessons would help fix that?
We all reach plateaus, even with a personal instructor...even so, with a teacher's guidance, the plateau can be more easily put into focus...with the experience of a teacher, who has "been there", any plateau can be clearly explained and remedied with small step-by-step goals...
Hope this helps, Mickey
Thanx for your time,
Jenna

Micky,
That email about lessons helped a lot. I think next
year I will take lessons. I already take flute lessons
but they're free, cause they're part of the band
curriculum. guitar lessons sound great and I think
they would help me keep on track and keep practicing.
Thanx again,
Jenna
