Layaway
Sure, we offer a layaway plan...This involves a minimum down payment of 50.00 (no matter what the price of the instrument), along with a letter specifying which instrument you're purchasing, and installments in increments of no less than 25.00 or more at your leisure. This usually makes the buying process painless. If the instrument is a non-stocking item, special or customer orders, the instrument will not be ordered by us until the item is at least 75% paid off and requested by you to be ordered. We cannot guarantee that we'll have the instrument in stock once a layaway is paid in full. However, your name will be on the next one due to arrive. Upon receiving the down payment, we set up the account debiting the balance as each payment comes in...you'll receive credit memos in the mail for each payment itemizing the credits and remaining balance. And, best of all, if you have a change of mind, or find another instrument, we will change your order to fit your needs. ONLY IN-STORE CREDITS WILL APPLY IF YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR ORDER...instruments are not put on hold with this process...we have scheduled orders for most brands...after payment is received in full, the instrument available at the time will ship...Sorry, we cannot issue any credit card or cash credits due to the commitment we've made with paperwork and processing time.
You may utilize any payment method for a layaway purchase: credit card, personal check, money order, paypal or cashier's check...

Set-Up Standards
We set up every instrument carefully before it leaves our shop, and to document this, we also include a 9-Point Checklist with each instrument shipped (new or used). Every Instrument will be ready to play; it will be intonated so that it plays pefectly in tune throughout the neck; it will be adjusted to ensure a nice low action without any buzzes; and it will be thoroughly inspected to ensure that the instrument is impeccable before it ships. We have high standards without compromise for every instrument we sell. We stand behind everything we sell 100% unconditionally with 100% in-store credits....additionally, we offer an extended LIFETIME WARRANTY, against manufacturer's defects, on every new instrument purchased...endorsed by Folk of the Wood that goes far and beyond most manufactuers' warranties. You can be assured that any instrument purchased through FOTW will be set up for ease of playability and stood behind for as long as you own the instrument! If for any reason you do not like the set-up, or the set-up shifted in any way during shipping, we will offer you another set-up or offer you 100% in-store credit towards any other instrument of your choice. This only requires that you return the instrument to us by your choice of shipping and include a descriptive letter on how you'd like your instrument set up...be sure to insure the instrument since we cannot be responsible for damage or shipping costs back to us. We will pay shipping costs back to you after setting up the instrument to your specifications or, if you're taking advantage of trading back the instrument, the shipping cost of sending out another instrument of your choice.

FOTW Introduction Letter in PDF Format
We offer a great trade-in program for any acoustic or electric instrument you may have. Many are not in an affordable position to purchase an instrument outright; therefore, they can offset the expense of purchasing a new instrument by trading in a used instrument. We also will give you fair market value on your trade-in, minus 15% resell costs, towards our already discounted pricing. When an agreement has been confirmed on any traded in instrument, all trades are final upon FOTW receiving the traded in instrument and the traded for instrument has been shipped. You will still have our full trade-in policy, and this is the total original trade-in value plus any extra cost, for as long as you own your FOTW instrument.
If you're trading an instrument in, please allow us ample time for processing and credits (processing credits can take from 4 to 6 weeks). All Trade-Ins are final due to the time and effort in coordinating a trade. Additionally, we would have a commitment in photography and listing efforts of your traded in instrument. Even so, if for any reason you do not like the instrument you traded for, we will offer you a full 100% in-store credit towards any other instrument of your choice. Sorry, no credit card or cash refunds can be issued. An in-store credit applies if you decide that you do not like the instrument you traded for...we do not purchase trade-ins; we only offer a trade-in value towards any instrument we carry. Please understand, shipping costs are still your responsibility...both to send the used instrument in for trade and for shipping out of the new instrument back to you. Please insure your instrument for its full value, with the carrier you ship with, before sending it out; Folk of the Wood does not take any responsibility if your trade-in arrives damaged or is lost in transit. Therefore, it's your responsibility to pack it well and insure it for its full value.
Here's our trade-in process upon your deciding to finalize a trade with us:
For Trade-ins:
If you do decide to make the trade, and as long as it arrives without damage, consider the trade completed as quoted (Unless instrument was not as described). Upon receipt of the trade-in instrument, along with payment (if specified), your instrument of choice will be shipped the same day...(Unless its a special order item) or you've already pre-paid for your instrument of choice...in which case, we will credit your previous purchase the trade-in value.
NOTE: Because we would have already invested in the resell of your trade-in, through photography and listing efforts, all trade-ins are final. If you're not completely satisfied with the instrument you purchased, you may return it for a full in-store credit towards any other instrument of your choice.
Our physical shipping address:

Be sure to pack it as well as possible...include newspaper within the case and without. Additionally, use a double corrugated box if you can find one...and don't forget to insure it for its full value. Include all correspondence on the trade in the case of the instrument. If your instrument does not have a case, be sure to tape correspondence on the strings of the instrument. Additionally, if your instrument does not have a case, be sure to double box it for added protection.
100% Limited Lifetime Warranty for Manufacturer's Defects On All Instruments Sold (Both New & Used) Any instrument purchased through FOTW, both new and used, will have a Lifetime Warranty against any manufacturer's defects. FOTW will stand behind every instrument for the life of ownership by the original purchaser. This Limited Lifetime Warranty covers any manufacturer's defects that may develop after your purchase for as long as you own the instrument. If Folk of the Wood deems the instrument is not repairable, then a further discount will be allotted you on any other instrument of your choice. This is a nontransferable Warranty. This ensures that you will always be protected whether buying a New Instrument with a limited time factory warranty or a used instrument without a factory warranty. This warranty does not cover problems due to excessive usage such as worn out parts, frets, strings, etc. Under the Standard Limited Lifetime Warranty, all Shipping costs are the responsibility of the original purchaser. Our utmost goal as FOTW is to offer full acoustic support...we're more of a support system and cooperative than we are a retail outlet. It's almost like an acoustic music co-op. You're 100% protected no matter what you purchase through us. As long as you own your FOTW instrument, we stand behind it with a 100% limited lifetime warranty on all new and used instruments purchased against any manufacturer's defect. Ultimately, your complete satisfaction with the products we represent is our final objective. Following is our Form Introductory Letter introducing our cooperative goals to our customers: "First, wed like to welcome you to the Folk of the Wood club. Upon purchasing a new or used instrument through us, you have essentially purchased a full support system that includes many benefits for as long as you own your instrument. If you have any questions regarding our support system and efforts, please e-mail us: e-mail: info@folkofthewood.com
Folk of the Wood will repair any instrument to the best of its ability...FOTW will not replace the instrument under any circumstances and is not obligated to do so. This Lifetime Warranty only obligates FOTW to repair the instrument as best as can be done. On New Instruments, FOTW reserves the right to determine if a repair required is a manufacturer's defect and whether the instrument can be cost effectively repaired (see above). On Used Instruments, FOTW will do its best to repair the defect or damage. For instance, if a crack develops, FOTW will repair the crack with cleats or filler to prevent its further separation. This warranty does not cover damage due to negligence, extreme weather conditions, stress-related problems due to heavy gauge strings, and other carelessness.
Note: Shipping costs, to and from, are the responsibility of the owner of the instrument.
Secondly, please accept our sincere appreciation for having the faith in us to make your purchase at Folk of the Wood. We believe in our customers as the reason for our existence and truly want to offer a service that goes far beyond your initial purchase.
Most importantly, if for any reason you find your instrument doesnt fit you, or you find some damage or defects, please allow us the opportunity to make it right. E-mail or call us at our toll free number: info@folkofthewood.com or 866-455-3689, and well do our best to gain your complete satisfaction with your new purchase by exchange, replacement or repair."
Shipping Costs: Folk of the Wood will only pay shipping costs to the customer, not from the customer, on all exchanges. Folk of the Wood is not responsible for shipping costs of returned instruments which have been found not to meet expectations. When returning an instrument for in-store credit, be sure to insure it for its full value. If the instrument arrives damaged, or is lost in transit, it is the responsibility of the one shipping to file a claim; Folk of the Wood does not take any responsibility for instruments that arrive damaged or is lost in transit. Therefore, take extra precaution in packing the instrument properly, and make sure that you do insure the package for its full value.
Custom Orders: Custom Orders require a 10% deposit (there are exceptions such as the Deering Custom Shop which requires a 50% deposit) All custom orders can be returned for an in-store credit, only to be applied to any other instrument of your choice. Please understand, we will then be incurring the costs for re-selling your custom ordered instrument which can be an expensive process considering the limited audience.
Deposits on Incoming Instruments: FOTW pre-orders stock and schedules orders with suppliers throughout the year. Due to this, at the very least, many instruments can be put on hold that are due in simply by making a 10% deposit. This locks you into the very next available instrument of your choice. This deposit, in full, can be moved into another instrument if you have a change of mind. However, a 15% surcharge will be retained for processing the paper work if the order, which the deposit was placed for, is cancelled. Please understand, this fee only covers the paperwork and time it takes to process, or cancel, an on-hold order...additionally, if the instrument was pre-ordered on your behalf, and was not an instrument that would have been on the regular schedule, FOTW is then obligated to incur the stocking of this particular instrument until it resells.
Books, Videos & Software Policy: We Warranty all of our Videos for a Lifetime! Please understand, all sales are final with books, videos & software. Because it's common and easy to copy a video, book or software program, we have to make it mandatory that all books, videos & software purchased cannot be returned unless defective and being replaced with the very same book, video or software program being sent...(this is to protect the writers, artists & programmers who are struggling to provide these works at a reasonable cost). Thanks for your consideration concerning this mandatory policy.
100% Satisfaction Guaranteed on all instruments, new and used, purchased through Folk of the Wood. There's a 3-day trial period to determine if the instrument fits you. If the instrument doesn't fit you, you will have a 100% in-store credit towards any other instrument of your choice. You may also enquire about our 3-day approval purchase plan for most instruments. Because Folk of the Wood offers incomparable policies, such as a 100% trade-in policy, it's necessary to have a full trade-back in-store credit on all purchases. Folk of the Wood will only pay shipping costs to the customer, not from the customer, on all exchanges.
