Dobro: Choice of Woods

Subject: Re: Fwd: Re: Fwd: Dobro ID

Thanks Mickey. Since I have already paid for this order I will let it
go. I was concerned that I might have made a mistake, and now
was the time to correct it. I read somewhere that the mahogany
wood give a mellow sound versus the bright sound of the spruce. I
play gospel music. Is the mahogany the best wood for this? You
have a number of exotic woods that I know nothing about.

Marvin

Greetings Marvin,

On Dobros, woods aren't as critical...most all Dobros are made from laminate woods...this includes high-end dobros too...the most critical factor in tonal production, on a Dobro, is the resophonic cone system...since you're upgrading to the Quarterman...you'll have the most optimal set-up possible on an import Dobro such as the Regal...and, yes, mahogany is somewhat warmer in tone...this is not as noticeable on a Dobro as it is on a banjo or a guitar...I believe the mahogany Regal to be the nicest finish of all Regals...

Mickey
