Andrew Dobros vs. Gibson Dobros

Date: Mon, 19 Jan 2004 10:20:56 -0700
Subject: Andrew Standard vs. Gibson Hound dog

Thanks for the reply on my earlier message. I was looking to purchase a
Dobro from ya'll and was looking at the Gibson Hound Dog 60S SN and the
Andrew STD-D-1 Standard. I am not familiar with the Andrew brand. What
are the major differences and which would you recommend? Are they both
quality or would you be better off spending a little bit more? thanks
again for your time.

Greetings again...

I believe both the Gibson and the Andrew to be top quality dobros...especially for the price range you're looking at...

The Andrew offers the Quarterman Cone...supplied by Crafters of Tennessee...the Gibson is using their very own, made to specs, Cone System...both sound good...and it would take a discerning ear to find one more appreciable than the other. The Andrew offers a built-in pick-up system too...and, the overall craftsmanship is superb...Gibson would have the name...and, the high resell value. We have another Andrew Standard due in any day now...I was hoping to get in some video samplers on it...so, please stay tuned.

Mickey
