Subject: Shipping of a Mandolin
Date: Thu, 15 Jan 2004 21:42:53 -0600

I have to ship a mandolin to the extremely cold northeast in the next couple of days. Do you have any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Darrel

Greetings Darrel,

This is tricky...be sure to inform whomever may be receiving the mandolin not to open the case until it's acclimated to the room temperature for a few hours...otherwise, finish checking can occur.

Wrap the instrument, on the inside of the case with lots of material...such as T-Shirts...this will ensure that there's no neck movement and will give it extra insulation...use a box with lots of airspace...and fill it completely with paper filler...and even better an old blanket wrapped around the case itself would help with the insulation.

And, most importantly, make sure the customer is aware that they should not open the case until it's acclimated a few hours.

No guarantees...however, this is taking most every precaution...You might also check with George Gruhn at www.gruhnguitars.com...he ships a lot of vintage instruments...

Hope something here helps...Mickey
