Subject: Tortis pick care
Date: Sun, 4 Apr 2004 18:56:14 -0500

When I ordered my Tortis pick the person I ordered from said that care instructions would come with the pick.

There were instructions on how to flatten the pick if it curled, but not on how to care for the pick otherwise.

I keep my pick in my guitar case.

What do I need to do to take care of my pick?

By the way, I love the pick.

Thanks,

Chris Fillebrown

Greetings Chris,

I just put up the Care and Feeting instructions up on our website this last week...I use a Toris C Thin exclusively myself...I can't believe after a year of use I haven't lost it...and, it shows no wear...:

CARING FOR YOUR NEW TORTIS PICK Your New Tortis pick is very similar to real turtle shell so it must be treated as such. Store your pick in your guitar's pick compartment. DO NOT store it in your wallet or carry it around with you in your pocket. If you also carry coins, keys etc. in there, your pick will get scratched and may break. In your wallet, it is doomed to failure. The picks are brittle and if flexed will most likely break. Also, don't let your pick go through the washer and/or dryer in one of your pants pockets (see above warning). The material is hygroscopic (look it up) and as such it will most likely deform if allowed to soak in water. With proper use - as a guitar pick only (not a screwdriver, scraper, knife etc.) it will likely last you a lifetime. If your pick breaks during playing, it is covered under warranty. Any other breakage and you are on your own! I trust you! Be kind to your New Tortis pick!

Let me know how else I might assist...Mickey

I have a question about which size, weight etc. to order.
I have a Collings D2HA, OM2HA and Martin D18v.¬ I primarily strum and some baby flatpicking. I usually buy the Dunlop (pink) plastic picks 1.18??
What do you think would be comparable to the Dunlop in size/weight etc? Thanks!

Glad to assist,
I believe you'll be happiest with a Thin style...they're essentially 1 mm + ...I also used a Dunlop before picking up my first Tortis...your 1.18 is fairly thick...however, the 1 mm + thin should feel very comfortable for you...I suppose you already have a shape in mind...Keep on Pickin', Mickey

I was trying to hear the downloads (on the Tortis Flatpicks) that you have on your site but
they will not work. Can you tell me why. I would sure like to hear
what a differance these picks have because I want to purchase some.
I had the real tortise shell picks years ago and really miss them.
Please let me know if there is a problem with the downloads. Thank
YOu...Glen Asberry

Glad to help Glen:

First, you'll want to make sure that you've loaded the latest Quicktime Player:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

Be sure to follow all instructions on installing after downloading...we have over 1000 video samplers offered up, and it's well worth the effort to have the correct player...

If you have an older computer, it may still not work...if so, you might want to consider checking these videos out on a friend's computer...

These Tortis picks are as good as the real ones and, yet, have no impact on the environment. I now use one exclusively myself (Style C Light)...and am very pleased with how its turned my playing around...

Keep on Pickin', Mickey
