Hi guys,
I live in Ireland and am in the process of learning irish tenor banjo.I would however also like to learn bluegrass banjo
at the same time.I know that it is possible to play irish trad on a bluegrass banjo but the reverse is not possible.
The GT OB-250 looks good value. Is it possible to to also play irish trad on the OB-250?
Also do ye ship to Ireland and if ye do what would the overall cost be?
All ye're help and advise is greatly appreciated.
Regards
Pearse
Greetings Pearse,
Glad to assist if I can:
I believe you're in the right part of the country to learn Irish Tenor Banjo...I wish I had your same opportunity.
Bluegrass banjo may be more of a challenge in Ireland...however, I believe it would certainly set you apart. First and foremost, for Bluegrass banjo, I'd suggest that you find some solid beginner videos for orientation...and follow this with some instructional books to advance your Bluegrass perspectives.
Yes, it is possible to play Irish trad on a bluegrass banjo; I do it all the time...and even with single notes in a fingerstyle approach. And, as you have correctly surmised, playing Bluegrass on a tenor banjo would be impossible.
Yes, Irish trad can easily be accomplished on the OB-250...and, something else to keep in mind is the melodic approach to 5-string banjo...Irish tunes sound phenomenal within this style and approach (also called Keith-Style Banjo).
Currently, we do not ship to Ireland or overseas; we've had many problems with damaged goods. However, you might check with www.elderly.com...they may be able to accommodate you.
If not, get back with me...we'll try to figure something out for you.
Do you have a friend with an address in the states?
