FAQs on Deering 6-String Banjos

Date: Fri, 9 Jan 2004 15:34:16 -0800

Would you please e-mail me your best price on the Deering B-6 banjo and the delux model? Thank you and have a nice day. Best Regards, Donna

Greetings Donna,

Here's our current new pricing:

These are both superb 6-string banjos....and both have entirely different characteristics...one's not necessarily better than the other. The Boston has a steel rim that serves as a tone ring; whereas, the Deluxe offers a bell brass tone ring. There's a unique resonance offered by the Boston...seems to be quite warm in tone...the Deluxe seems to have a more bell-like tone with good projection.

Let me know if you have any further questions...Mickey

Subject: Re: Deering Banjitars

I play guitar and own both a vintage Martin and a Taylor. I am very much
interested in the Deering Banjitar. Disregarding price, please give me your
opinion of the two models available. What is the tonal comparison, build,
durability, etc? I have a home studio and play for fun only. Is the D-6 worth
the extra money, or would I be just as well off with the B-6? Thanks for your
opinion, in advance.

Sid Williams

Greetings Sid,

Glad to assist if I can:

I believe the D-6 model to be well worth the price difference in comparison to the B-6...Both are superb sounding 6-strings...

1. Deering B-6: This banjo has a Steel Rim that serves as the tone ring...this isn't necessarily a bad thing...it contributes to its own unique sound...the B-6 might work well for most recording situations...many Nashville studio musicians swear by the Deering Boston 5-string for its unique capability of providing a sound compatible with most mics...

2. Deeering D-6: This banjo has the Sandcast tone ring that seems to give it a more bell-like tone...and a more traditional banjo tone...what you'd expect to hear in a high-end pro banjo (of course, the cost difference also reflects this).

Both of the above banjos are made with Mahogany woods which contributes to a warmer tone than maple woods.

Hope this helps...Mickey
