Questions About Dobro Metal Parts/Construction

Date: Sat, 10 Aug 2002 20:49:55 EDT

What is the meaning of the term "traditional sandcast spider guitar sound"? Does this relate to the tone of the instrument? I am interested in purchasing a good but inexpensive resonator guitar and need to learn more about what determines to cost.

Greetings,

A sandcasting of a metal part is a completely different process than the cheaper routes of metal molding. Sandcasting, as the name implies, means that metal component is shaped and finished in a sand formed mold...this process has been found to be superior to most any other process...for instance, sandcast banjo tone rings have been found to have a superior sound to any other type of tone ring. Therefore, when Dobro advertising states "traditional sandcast guitar sound", they're emphasizing the value of a sandcast spider sound over a standard molded spider sound.

Hope this helps...Mickey
