To whom it may concern,
I have a friend who is interested in many different instruments, including Mandolas, Octaves and Zooks, but he does not have internet access with his laptop, and we can't really get together to use my computer. I would like to be able to burn the video/audio samples to a cd so he can see them on his laptop, but I don't believe I can do this from the website. I would have to have the actual clips sent to me via email. If this is possible I would greatly appreciate it. Obviously emailing all the clips would be too time consuming, but if you could perhaps email me a video sample or two from each of the above listed intruments, and maybe a couple from other instruments, this would give my friend a good sampling so he knows what he wants to buy. If this is not possible or if it violates any kind of copyright laws, I understand.
Thank you for any consideration to this request. James Taylor
Hi James...
Nice name you have...one of my all-time favorite singers and one of my very own mentors...learned lots of JT material in my teenage years. And, wow, he sure has amazing longevity...he's an inspiration to us all.
Sorry, I'm sure you're razzed quite often for having such an infamous name.
Love to assist...and sorry about the delayed e-mail...we've been bombarded of late for some reason.
I was wondering if you could email me some of the video samples that are on your website.
I would be happy to e-mail the samplers only they are all 5MB's on average in size. Hence, even sending a couple could take quite awhile.
Now, on another note, we have had many requests for these samplers on disc...so, we have considered producing a DVD, or CD, of each type of instrument sampled. We can then send these out be snail mail per request made. Maybe we can put these together in the close future...please stay tuned on our web site for the availability of these video samplers on CD/DVD.
And, thanks so much for tuning in with us...Mickey

My question, is ths : i like on the video octaves mandolin samplers, the tune of
the Weber Absaroka #3
I want to learn it, but i don't know how. You play to fast and too far for my
eyes. Have you got a tab or anything about this tune, which can help me
?http://www.folkofthewood.com/page2528.htm
it's just for me, no commercial objective.
Thank you
Jonathan TILLY
Greetings Jonathan,
Thanks for linking to us from your site...you're more than welcome to use anything you'd like to from our site...for instance, you might want to include our Octave Mando chord charts that are pdf...and can be downloaded directly from your site...
I've linked back to your site from our "Other Sites of Interest"...
Keep up the good work...Mickey

Yes, believe it or not, this piece started out as an improvisation on camera...and, it seemed to take form into a completed composition. Currently, there isn't a tab on this...however, it is a good idea...and maybe I should go through some of my video samplers for the octave and include them as tabs on our octave instructional section. It would be a larger undertaking...well worth the effort though...
A lot of this piece relies on crosspicking technique...you might check through some of these patterns available on our lessons page...
Thanks so much for the good idea...a matter of time to transcribe to tab...Mickey

these two video samplers:
Trinity College TM-325 Octave Mandolin Second Series
New Mic
Trinity College Octave #2
Trinity College Octave #4
Thank you for the info
-Dave
Greetings Dave,
Thanks for your interest...
#2 is Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring...as you can hear, I've extended the arrangement...and there are some Leo Kottke influences...lots of crosspicking
#4 is one of my own originals...there again, lots of crosspicking...I love crosspicking!!!
Let me know if I can ever assist further...Mickey

Hi Mickey!
I had taken a vow of silence for at least two weeks, but now I have to
break it :))
Actually, the video sampler I'm referring to is the one at:
http://www.folkofthewood.com/page532.htm
And I hope that you tell me it's on the "Intro to Octave Mandolin"
tape. That is one awsome piece of music!
Thanks again!
Garry
Greetings Garry,
Yeah! I know which piece you're referring to: "The Battle of Rivendell"...I wrote this piece in 1990...It's one of my personal favorites...and, it just so happens to also be showcased on the "Intro to the Octave Mando" video...because of the limited time frame, the piece wasn't broken down to be taught...it was aired on the video with the hopes that others would take an interest in fingerpicking mandolin...
Here's the Chapter it's located in:
Chapter VII: New Dimensions In Octave Mandolin
A. "The Battle of Rivendell" B. "The Amber Hills of Moria"
Thanks for your avid support of my fingerpicking mando efforts...Mickey
