I'd like a guitar crosspicking book in standard notation. I see Mickey has a crosspicking book but I think its all tablature. Yet his free lessons on the website have standard notation. Am I wrong about his book?
Greetings,
Thanks for your interest in the Mel Bay title: "Guitar Crosspicking Technique"...
Yes, the "Guitar Crosspicking Technique" book is written out entirely in tablature format...this is a great advantage since the tablature denotes exact finger placement where standard notation falls short...read the new review on the "Mandolin Crosspicking Technique" book at:
http://www.mandolinmagazine.com/reviews/crosspicking.html
It might shed a little more light on the advantages of crosspicking in tab...
The website does have the standard notation mixed in with the crosspicking...and, it might enhance the reading of the tab....however, if the standard notation was added to the book along with the tab, the book would have required another 75% in added pages...
To see an example of the layout in the "Guitar Crosspicking Technique" book, be sure to check out the PDF downloads off of the Lessons Section:

I like your crosspicking guitar book, but it is hard to stay open. It was advertised as spiral bound. I would like to trade if you have any more. Please answer soon. Thankyou.

Greetings Joseph,
Thanks for bringing this to my attention...I've corrected the reference to spiral bound. Yes, it was scheduled to come out as spiral bound, unfortunately, Mel Bay opted to make it perfect bound. Which, of course, is different from the "Mandolin Crosspicking Technique" book which was produced as spiral bound...it might be due to the fact that it's thicker than the mand book.
Here's what I'd suggest: Try getting a couple of those large document clips, (sold at Office Supply Stores), and, with a music stand, clip both sides of the book to the music stand on both sides...this is what works for me when I use perfect bound books...Hopefully, it works for you...on the upside, we're hoping to produce an accompanying/optional CD that will be an aural reference of all exercises and songs within the book...this is scheduled to be released in 2004...
Be sure to get back with me if I can ever be of further assistance...Mickey

Greetings Brian,
No, I didn't...I pulled out the latest September issue and lo and behold, there it is. They reviewed this book without any request or solicitation. That's truly impressive of Bluegrass Unlimited...
I had no idea that they also did a review of the Crosspicking Mandolin Technique a few years back...
Thanks for bringing this to my attention...
Let's stay in touch...Mickey

Ok, now for the question:
Are there any plans to make recordings of any other exercises or songs in the book available either online or on CD? It's so much easier, for me, to learn something once I've heard it. BTW: The QuickTime examples you do have up are great!
I just thought of one more question:
Could I preorder the book and other merchandise and have them all shipped together when the book is available? Would this save me anything on the shipping?
Thanks, Mike
Yes, I'm installing a sound studio to ensure that each of my books have an optional CD. I agree, it makes the learning process less frustrating.
Sure Mike, you can preorder any merchandise you'd like...your card wouldn't be charged until the items are shipped (PayPal payments are separate from this). Additionally, we have a one-time charge of 5.00 for any amount of accessories ordered, therefore, yes, you would save on shipping costs by bundling your accessory order with the book.
Let me know if you have further questions...
