Welcome to Folkcraft FOLKCRAFT APPALACHIAN DULCIMER INTRODUCTION PERFORMANCE MODEL: The ultimate Dulcimer! This model represents the best of everything Folkcraft can put into a Dulcimer. Each is unique. Some wood choices available are Rosewood, Curly Maple, Birdseye Maple, and Koa. The fingerboard is Koa overlaid with Maple and Ebony and has mother of pearl inlays. The nut and bridge are of micarta. The finish is rubbed to a satin luster. Stewart MacDonald Planetary Pegs are used on models with scroll heads. High quality sealed geared tuners are used on flat peg head models. Call or to learn what is currently available. Prices will vary depending on woods used and design details. Click on Image for Magnified View CUSTOM MODELS: The best production models Folkcraft makes! - The sound is particularly well balanced being bright as well as mellow. Available with a traditional scroll head or "guitar style" peg head in two wood combinations - African Padauk or Curly Maple. The Custom model has a two-piece book matched back with center inlay, a Maple fingerboard overlaid with varying exotic woods and inlaid with three mother of pearl position dots. The same wood is also used for the heel cap. The soundboard is Sitka Spruce on the Padauk model and Western Red Cedar on the Curly Maple model. The tuners on scroll head models are Stewart MacDonald Planetary Pegs, high quality sealed tuners are used on flat peg head models. Click on Image for Magnified View TRADITIONAL HOURGLASS MODELS: Our most popular Dulcimers. These instruments provide clean note definition and have good volume. We offer two model choices. The FSH-W is made of solid Walnut and has a warm mellow sound. The FSH-Ch is made of solid Cherry with and has a bright sound. The CSH models: These have a Walnut body with a Western Red Cedar, Butternut or Spruce soundboard (please specify). It has a two-piece book matched back with an inlay strip. The fingerboard is Maple overlaid with varying exotic woods with matching heel cap. It is close in sound to the Custom models. TEARDROP MODEL: Folkcraft's most basic dulcimer design. The Teardrop model is quieter than the Hourglass models with a more "banjo-like" tone. It is available in two models. The T-W (pictured here) is made of solid Walnut. The T-Ch is made of solid Cherry. TRADITIONAL TEARDROP MODEL: With features and woods similar to the CSH-CEW model (Walnut & Western Red Cedar), the tone of the Traditional Teardrop emphasizes lower frequencies.
SIX-STRING MODEL: Designed for powerful sound, the Six-String works best as a back-up instrument to fill out harmonies in a band, ensemble or singing group. Its sound can be compared to the twelve-string guitar. With features similar to the Custom Models, the Six-String has a two-piece book-matched back with center inlay, varying exotic woods laminated to the fingerboards and have matching heelcaps. Its available in two models: SS-Ch (solid Cherry), SS-W (solid Walnut). Note: Kits are complete with all wood, hardware, strings and directions. Builders will need simple hand tools, glue and finishing materials.
