Brian & Susan....

Just wanted to say thank you so much for shipping my
MidMissouri M-11 to me right away and for all the help
& information! I had planned to surprise my husband for our
anniversary, but couldn't wait, so his suprise was
under the Christmas tree.

My husband really loves his new mando (so do I!) and
the Midmissouri M-11 is really great for celtic/folk
and it sounds beautiful!! (he has a flatiron
bluegrass mando) Hope you all had a great
holiday....and wishing you a great 2002!

Thanks again,
Mary Detwiler

Hi Mickey;

Just a short note to let you know that i am very happy with my Weber mandolin. It has a beautifull tone and is easy to play. I am having lots of fun with it and play it on a regular daily basis, till my fingers hurt !
I am working on your crosspicking book. However, with my violin back ground, I have some problems, getting my fingers used to the fingering of the chords.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.

Take care

John

I received my Weber "Sweet Pea" in the mail today..........it exceeds
my wildest expectations. It is terminally cute, and offers volume
and tone you wouldn't expect in such a small package. I love it!

Subject: Re: Electronic Tuner for Banjo

Thank you. I need to tell you something. I planned, when I got off from work this evening, to take your price quote to one of the music megastores here in Atlanta that carries the Goodtime II and advertises that it will beat any price, internet or not, and ask them to try to put together a comparable package to what you offer at a little cheaper price.

I've thought that over. It's a mistake. Your website, full of helpful advise and information, along with the very fair pricing for the set, reminded me that you are supposed to do business with people who really seem to care, not just the low bidder. Therefore, I am going over to your site now and place an order for the Goodtime II with gig bag and accessory kit. Hopefully this will get me off on the right foot on this adventure. Thanks again.

Subject: customer feedback

Hi -

I recently bought a used Weber Absaroka mandolin and feel like I should tell you how pleased I am with how you handled the sale and treated me as a customer. I know that "treating the customer right" is more expensive up-front, but I think by doing that you've earned my loyalty - I'm going to place an order for a few more things next paycheck. Also, maybe this is a little weird, but when I play an instrument with which I had a good experience in acquiring, it just sounds better! It was very nice dealing with Mickey, he really treated me right.

Sincerely,
John Wack

Subject: You have a great website!

Howdy folks,

Just thought I'd complement you on a truly outstanding website! I subscribe to the Accutab banjo list and one of our members mentioned your videos of your instruments for sale actually being played. I have a cable hookup so once I had the newest version of Quiktime it loads and plays almost instantly. What a great way to sell instruments!

I'm in the twilight years of my banjo picking and have several vintage Gibsons to choose from. I'll be sure to let my friends know of your wares along with what appear to be very competitive prices. I'll also be checking from time to time for parts , strings, tuners etc.

Hello Mickey,
I have recently acquired a new violin (for a beginner, I am sure @ $200
CDN). I will be taking beginner lessons this January at my local high
school. This new violin, of course, couldn't make a sound when I brought it
home. After reading your beginner lessons on your web site, I know what to
do now, preparing the bow and tuning this new violin.

Thank you very much for the insight. It is just what I was looking for. I
already play guitar and can read music so I am looking forward to starting
my violin studies.
If you have any advice, other than what I read on your web site that you
would like to give, please do. I listen to your direction with interest.

Thank you for your excellent resource.
-Howard

Hey I never took the time to thank yall for your wonderful service. I ordered a Deering Calico banjo and received it a couple of months ago. I played my very first festival with it and I'd like to thank you for making it such a special night for me. I know I bugged yall for more than two weeks with calls about its whereabouts and how much it had to be ready and you were very patient with me. Keep Pickin'

Subject: Mandola Video

Hi Mickey,
I ordered the new Mandola video about 2 weeks ago. I was told it wasn't ready to go yet, at that time, I'm just curious as to how soon I can expect to receive it. I'm not in any particular hurry, just wondering.
I have enjoyed the Octave Mandolin video quite a bit. I learned some new things and had other things I have been trying confirmed. I'm glad you are doing instruction on instruments that are out of the mainstream.
Happy New Year,
Joe Mendel

Subject: Kudos from a classical performer!

Hello Mickey:

Wow, I am very impressed and fascinated with your site! As a
professional violist (and sometimes violinist) for more than 25
years, I wondered, do you get many classical musicians as visitors
and/or customers? I have been intrigued about possibly
expanding my horizons ever since I got "chosen" to play someone
else's beater mandolin (for about a total of 16 measures - LOL)
from my seat in the viola section during the a Palm Beach Opera
production a few years ago of The Merry Widow. I didn't like the
instrument much, since it was tinny and twangy sounding (like a
plucked violin!) - but I had heard of mandolas, and preferring
deeper resonances, always thought I would like one of those... (I
had never even heard of octave mandolins before, at that point.) And then I found your site, and I'm not sure what I want any more! So many possibilities!
I know next to nothing about bluegrass or Celtic music or tablatures,
and I don't "fiddle" at all. I downloaded that QuickTime program just
so that I could listen to and look at your mandola samples, and was
truly amazed at the type of sounds I heard! You play very well!

Due to time it takes to download the samples, I have only heard
some of them so far. Enough to have learned that alas, I have
expensive tastes in the mandola department, much preferring the
mellower sounds of ones that cost well over $1000 and not being
impressed nearly as much with the cheaper models. And the
pocketbook of this free-lancer is not exactly flush! (I notice you take
trades, though, and I have this nice 98-year old German handmade
violin with a one-piece back and no repairs ever made or needed,
in excellent++ condition, that I would consider parting with...)
But then I heard those samples you played on the Johnson octave
mandolin, and they blew me away! I take it that when you use the
term 20.50" scale, that is the same as what we would refer to as the
"vibrating string length", correct? I am wondering if this might be a
possibility to consider. That length seems to be less than that on
other octave mandolins, but is still considerably more than the 14.5"
vibrating string length on my viola. What are the complete body
dimensions of the Johnson MA-550? I notice they're not listed. What a neat sound! And pretty, too.

My main challenge, though, if I get any instrument from this group,
will be learning what to do with my right hand, but once I figured that
part out, I'll bet Bach solo violin sonatas would sound really cool on
something like that... and in the original keys, even! ;-)

Anyway, just sharing some of my initial thoughts... you also say you
have a larger used inventory than what's listed on the site. Maybe
that is something with possibilities to explore as well. You will likely
be hearing from me again!

Admiringly,

Susan Padgitt Schwab

Subject: website faulty link & testimonial

Mickey,

I frequent your website as much as any website on the internet. More often
than not to oggle over some of the finer Mandolins you've got in stock, to
read customers' comments about them, and to fantasize about how much easier
flatpicking would be with a radiused fingerboard.
Anyways, I write to inform you of a faulty link on your site. The link is on
the following page:

http://www.folkofthewood.com/page1132.htm

The link to the used Breedlove Cascade mandolin (natural finish) points to the
page for the used Gibson below it, page1307.htm.
Keep up the good website,
Robin Lamb

ps, I might as well throw in a testimonial for your Mandolin Crosspicking
book. I've been plugging away at it and find your strengthening and timing
exercises to be fun, and really beneficial. My mandolin styling, as well as
my musical sense have really accelerated as a result of using your book to
guide my playing. I have been thinking for some time now that the only way
I'd get past the limitations I'd encountered on the mandolin would be to get a
personal instructor. Now, for only $20 and some elbow grease, I've leapt past
my previous obstacles and am making the kind of music I had been hoping to
make when I started playing the mandolin a year ago.

Hi Mickey. I just started trying to learn scruggs style banjo a couple months ago
and have recently found your lessons an immense help. I was wondering if you had
the lesson on adding the rolls to the soldier song and or if you have any other lessons
prepared that I could use? Thanks again!

Mickey:  Thanks for this great website.  I just purchased a fiddle and was searching the web to see how to tune it!  Found your beginner instructions pages and I'm off to work to learn how to play this new instrument.  I play piano, guitar, harmonica, flute and hopefully one day the fiddle.  +B+B+
