Subject: Atomic Rigel
The Rigel arrived Monday 7-15-01. I am so happy you folks contacted me when it arrived, despite the cancellation. The sound is unbelievable. It brings out my best! I sent my Kentucky F5 to defer some of the cost. Hopefully, by now it has arrived? Again many thanks. It is absolutely the best sounding instrument I have ever owned. B. Hinch

Subject: Octave Mandolin
Dear Bryan, The Trinity College Octave Mandolin arrived Friday, set up very well
(as you promised). I really like the sound of the instrument and am
enjoying playing it. The fingers on my left hand are getting a good
workout, stretching to reach the same frets as a regular mandolin.
When will Mickey's book on the octave mandolin be coming out? I'd like
to get a copy when it is available. Thanks for all your help. M. Jones

Hi , I just received my new KM 630 Mandolin today and I'm so pleased with the service you gave me. The Mandolin play's so easy and has such a great sound, I can hardly put it down. I've only been playing for a year and I was getting a little frustrated with the one I had. Thanks so much for my Father's Day present my Wife just gave me! Sincerely B. Clark

Subject: Thanks so much!
Thanks so much for responding to my email about the eBay auction. I did not
realize that you were not going to sell the bouzouki for less than $415. I
am not an experienced bouzouki player - I have just recently heard the
instrument (the Greek style, actually) and have developed a huge interest.
I am a guitar player and was hoping to learn a new instrument. I will be
buying a bouzouki from you in the near future. I have placed a request on
your website for a catalog and I am waiting for that to come in to look at
first. I have checked other sites but you seem to be the best retailer I
can find with your guarantees and testimonials.
I an a Music Teacher in West Seneca, NY just outside of Buffalo, NY. I have
taught elementary Music for the last 7 years and will begin teaching middle
school Music to grades 7 and 8 next school year. I will be using your site
as an excellent resource for examples of how different folk and acoustic
instruments sound via your video clips.
Have a great day! Take care!

Hello Bryan:
I want to thank you for the Sierra and the KM-380S.I am totally amazed at the tonal quality of both. I set the Sierra up to my personal liking and It has more low end power than just about any banjo I have ever owned. I had a Golden Era and must say the tonal qualities of the Sierra is just as good. If a person doesn't care about fancy bells and whistles the Sierra is the best value there is. Once again,Thanks! J. Pass Marietta, Ok

Howdy,
I am in the market for a new mandolin and stumbled across your website several days ago. I am a newbie and have learned alot from your web page. I dig everything about it, your logo and especially your philosophy on communicating with nature; keep up the good vibrations. It is good to see that you are incorporating a sense of spirituality into your livelihood. I am so impressed by it that I hope to place an order for one of your Kentucky mandos in the next couple of days. Also, do you sell t-shirts with your logo? I typically shy away from the notion of myself as a walking billboard, but I would like wear one of yours, if available. Till then...
Thanks,
K. Sikora

Bryan,
I received the picks and strings that were ordered. Thank you so
much for the service. I am practicng thirty minutes in the a.m and
thirty minutes in the evening. Using the video. Some days I get so mad I
want to throw the mandolin against the wall but then I remember what the
old timers say,"Practice, practice, practice". My fingers are so sore I
can't pick my nose.It has been a pleasure doing business with you.

Hi. My Wildwood Artist arrived a couple of weeks ago in perfect condition. I wanted to play the banjo for a while and get a feel for it so I could give you an accurate and honest opinion of these banjos. I have to say after playing it every day for two weeks, that it is more banjo than I expected. Wildwood is not a well known name in this part of the country but mine has made quite a first impression on allot of pickers .The craftsmanship is top notch and the materials used in its construction are excellent as well. It is a beautiful banjo and sounds every bit as good as it looks. It is not only loud, as I had hoped, it is very loud. The tone is crisp and clear all the way up the neck. THIS BANJO REALLY POPS!!!! Thanks again for all your help. sincerely, K. Pyles

And thanks for upgrading the strap when the order was delayed when one of your

Subject: goodtime banjo
Date: Sun, 13 May 2001 10:32:31 -0700
Dear Mr Cochran, I did not order the goodtime banjo through the internet, but from a superstore. This gave me the opportunity to compare it with several others. First, I picked up a $350 dollar washburn, and then a $550 dollar gibson. They both sounded rather lousy. However, there were two other banjos on the shelf that I figured to be a waste of time to even try. One was an incredibly ornate $3600 dollar banjo and the "rather modest" goodtime banjo. In a last ditch effort I picked up the goodtime banjo, which I thought to be more like a tambourine with strings, and played it. To my complete and utter amazement, this banjo was far superior to every other banjo I had played. It was clearer, brighter, easier to play, and three times as loud. In utter disbelief, I assembled a group of customers and asked them to listen and compare. Everyone who did was equally impressed. For fun, I pulled down the $3600 banjo and added it the showdown. The $3600 banjo was warm, rich and beautiful, but lacked the brightness and sheer volume of the "gootime". All things considered, no one in the store, even with their backs turned, preferred the sound of the $3600 banjo over the $250 goodtime. There is something about the simplicity of this design and the open back, which give it a sizeable advantage over any banjo I have ever heard or played. If you are a serious player and care more about sound than cosmetics, this is probably the best banjo you can find for any amount of money.

Subject: Rigel Deluxe Oval Hole
Dear Mickey,
The Rigel A+ Deluxe arrived safely on Tuesday just in time for the
traditional Thanksgiving jam of old time music. I played it most of
Wednesday evening getting comfortable with it. The tone is spectacular.
I have two wonderful 1920's Washburns that I would stack up against any
Gibson for sustain and brightness if not depth, but the surpasses
anything I could have expected in an oval hole for tone, clarity and
note separation, ease of playing, depth on open chords, volume, and all
around wow-ness for fiddle tunes and Celtic music--O'Carolan's Morgan
Megan never sounded better. The classical pieces I've tried sound
wonderful. I think I like the fact that the sustain isn't so long that
it blurs the next note. In short, I'm delighted. It was the right
decision to go for the Rigel. I don't have the technique yet to get the
sound that Simon Mayor can get out of an f-hole. But this mandolin is
extraordinarily sweet-toned and positively rings on a tune like
Soldier's Joy or Liberty both of which I played about a hundred times
since getting the Rigel. Thank god I live alone.
I want to thank for your advice and your care in updating me about the
time of delivery. I received your voice-mail message with all the joy of
an expectant father and to hear you make the Rigel sing for me over the
phone was a delight. The whole process of consulting with you, working
out the details, and finishing the transaction with you was a delight.
As I said before, I've dealt with other concerns but yours is the finest
top to bottom I've ever encountered in the instrument business. I doubt
in fact that any other business has ever been so patient with my
inquiries and in keeping me updated. All the thanks in the world goes to
you and the gracious folk of the wood. I just put the Rigel down long
enough to write this and now I'm going to pick it up again and teach
myself "St. Anne's Reel"--the first chord of which sounds saintly
already. Bless you Mickey. And thanks be to heaven for you and Folk of
the Wood.
Warmly, Jon

Hello, my name is Nathaniel Collins, 19yrs old and I'm from a small place known
as Harts, West Virginia. I have just started playing the Mandolin and I am
truly inspired your playing. I listened to the sound clips on your site, by
the way which is great, and I concluded that I would love to play just as great
as you do, hats off to you. Your a great musician. I would like to know what
has helped to come as far as you have with the Mandolin? Also, I love the F-
style Mandolin, primarily because I grew up listening to Bill Monroe, Ricky
Scaggs, and Doyle Lawson. They all have a different style but great in their own
way. Currently I have, what I believe to be, a A-stlye Mandolin, taterbug. The
name of it is a Flinthill. I am looking around to see what kind of deals there
are on different F-styles. I can't afford much, you know, that college thing,
it drains all your money, but the education comes first. I have been taking
lessons from a man named Al White here at the College, Berea College, Berea,
Kentucky. I have had my Mandolin for about three years, and just now starting
to play songs. Al says I am a quick learner, which is true because I already
know what the song is suppose to sound like, just got to know where to put my
fingers and pick the strings. Finally, after all this blibber-blabber, do you
have any advice for me on playing the Mandolin? Take care, God Bless, and keep
up the excellent work.
N. Collins

Subject: Red Fox Arrival
Greetings Folk of the Wood:
My new Stelling Red Fox came today and it is a superb instrument. The
craftsmanship and components are second to none. A beautiful instrument and
the signature Stelling sound is perfect. The amazing thing that I noticed was
that this "lower priced" model has the exact same quality (workmanship,
quality components, finish, and just the right feel etc.) as my more
expensive Virginian. The same cannot be said of the other manufacturers banjo
that are on the market that I have owned or played. There seems to be a huge
difference between their "lower priced" banjo and their "higher priced"
units. In the last 3 years I have gone through 8 banjos with 2 keepers-my
Stellings.
I thank you for pursuing a Stelling dealership, and in my opinion there is no
better banjo made or better dealership in the country.
Thanks again, Mickey and Bryan for your help.

Thank you all for sending my new Breedlove mandolin, I love it!! It arrived in perfect shape even though FedEx decided to send it from Ruidoso through Ft. Worth to Phoenix on its way to Tucson. Doesn't make sense but all's well. The tone is outstanding, it plays easy and even short fat fingers like mine may actually learn to make music someday.
Thank you especially Mickey for helping me and offering me that lesson. As soon as I get past Oh Susanna and Yankee Doodle Dandy and several months of scale practice, I'll give you a call. If I can be of any service to you here in Tucson in the meantime, please don't hesitate to ask.
Take care & thanks again,
A.Simpson

Hello Suzie, Bryan and Mickey - Had to put my new gold-plated, engraved, Stelling Red Fox aside - just for a moment, though!
After playing banjo left-handed for 9 months, I can see with this new Red Fox, I get to learn pickin' all over - my pickin' hand can relax and just PICK to get those clear full tones. The volume and fullness of sound just leaps off these strings. And the fingerboard seems to let my fingers just float around - feels almost fluid - no "death grip" needed to press the strings hard enough to get clear notes. That is no small help for my medically-challenged fingers! What a JOY this is to Play!! And Beautiful! I couldn't even pick it up when I first opened the case - I just HAD to gaze up and down at the engraving on the gold and the fingerboard and soak up the artistry!
And what a JOY it's been to work with you all! For MORE than a year, I have pestered you all with banjos, trade-ups, changing from righty to lefty playing (!), changes to banjo orders, emails, phone calls, questions, etc!!, etc!!, - and you always patiently worked out everything with that "500%" personal service. I can tell you, I never talk "music" without mentioning you all! You are a pleasure to "do music" with!!
And now, here, I have my HOLY GRAIL of banjos. This instrument is awesome and, yes, worth the wait!
Finally, I emailed Geoff about the strap - I asked him just to skip it, if it's not made. Then, I'd like to get a black Folk Of The Wood strap! I'll let you know later.
Gotta get back to the Fox - the wife and daughters are out shopping tonite, and I'm home alone, to make all the noise I want!! Take Care, Dave

Mickey,
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my
questions - I really appreciate it.
I guess when you don't have to think about what your
right hand is doing, you can really think about your
left hand.
I look forward to the release of your upcoming
project. It is certainly a unique topic that I have
never seen addressed.
If you need any enthusiastic 'beta testers' for your
training materials - I'd love to help out!!!
Best regards,
A. Sicard

haven't been able to put it down since. It is everything I wanted and more!
What deep resonant tone and what a soft feel on the fingerboard. It's like

Mickey, this e-mail is not only to you, but to all the people that visit
the Folk Of The Wood Site. My name is Rolan Corley, from Longview Texas. About a year ago I purchased a Kentucky 620B, a really nice instrument. About a month ago I decided to drive 500 miles to Ruidoso, to visit the area
and visit with Mickey. To my disappointment Mickey was not at the store. His brother called him, at his studio where he was working. Mickey took the
time from him busy schedule to come to the store and visit with me. Now you
have to understand, I'm just a beginner mandolin player, but Mickey treated
me like I was a professional, with praise and encouragement. He even took
the time to give me a free lesson. Thanks Mickey. While I was there, I even
traded up to a larger case for my Mandolin. Believe me, and him, he truly
has a great trade up policy, and his word is golden. Mickey just wanted the
people who haven't met you to know that you are a great guy, and have the
best program I've ever seen. Thanks for the New Mexico hospitality.
