From: Steve Mischke Subject: Johnson resonator guitars Dear Mickey, What is the country of manufacture for your current stock of Johnson resonator guitars? In your FAQ section it is mentioned that the Czech manufactured models are of very high quality; however, I have noticed at other websites that Korean and Chinese versions are for sale. Is there any difference in quality (fit, finish, tone, etc) between the Czech manufactured instruments and those made in other countries? Thanks, Steve The consensus is still out on these...the Johnson manufacturer is trying to claim them as being of better quality. Until I see a chinese model myself, I cannot pass judgment...now, I'm mostly referring to the metal bodied dobros. Now, for wood bodies, most all of them have been made in Korea and, as far as I know, still are being made in Korea. I believe the value for both the Regal and the Johnson woodbodies to be unsurpassed. Now, we're talking price in relation to quality. No doubt, Gibson and Beard still beats them all (but so does the price). I did see the new Czech Regal metal bodies and am nothing but impressed with the quality...and, I've always loved the original Johnson metal bodies which were also made in the Czech Republic.
