For Mickey:
Somewhere in this extensive website I read that you have transcriptions of a few of Vassar Clements' playings of Lonesome Fiddle Blues. I was in the middle of the painstaking process of writing them out myself when I stumbled across Folk of the Wood for the first time. Any chance you could send me those transcriptions? I suppose it would depend on copyright laws and whether or not they are electronic to begin with. Thanks for any help.

Alyson Slack

Greetings Alyson,

Glad to assist if I can...

Yes, this is also one of my favorite tunes...and, yes, it's most definitely protected under copyright law. I do not have a transcription of this tune myself. I play it from memory and essentially, experiment with it every time I play it. I play it on banjo, mandolin, guitar and fiddle...haven't tried it on Dobro yet.

There is a previously published arrangement of this tune in a personality folio. I believe Oak Publications did publish this piece when they did a book dedicated to Vassar Clements fiddle arrangements. I'm not sure if its still in print today....it was originally written by Matt Glaser.

I wish you the best in your research efforts, Mickey

I remember from Bean Blossom several years back that Josh Graves had some sort of instructional book or video. Do you know of this or carry it?

I'm aware of this video, but do not have it in stock.

Does the Tim McCasland video cover slide playing and bluegrass?

The McCasland video covers bluegrass dobro style playing...strictly squareneck dobro.

Hi Again......! Well got a hour to spend with the SV175 this morning. Watched both tapes and the first..."You Can Learn to Fiddle" lost me in the tuning....let alone the music. On the other hand...I found the second tape, "60-minute introducion to Violin" to be outstanding. It not only informed as to how to run the bow....(ie. rosen, frog tension, etc., ) but also showed the proper techniques and stances. Took me about a half hour alone just to tune...(streching strings and slipping pegs)...but in all found this to be excellent! Just thought I'd pass that on in case you wanted a users feedback. Thanks again and I'll keep you informed (and I'll try not to be a pest). Paul
