Notes on Mickey Maguire:
Mickey Maguire is a singer-songwriter from mid Ohio. His mother was a songwriter and co-wrote country music with Hillman Hall ("Pass Me By if You're Only Passing Through"), the brother of country music great, Tom T. Hall.

From a young age, Mickey played music will Hillman Hall and other country artists. As an adult, be played country, rock n' roll, blues, folk, and everything in-between. His original music is moody, mostly acoustic guitar with meaningful lyrics that share his observations and life experiences.

Mickey has been compared to James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett, John Denver, and John Prine. While not intending to imitate anyone at all, his music has developed into a combination of styles that draw from his country background, his father's Irish heritage, his early rock n' roll experiences, and a love of vocal music.

CURRENT PROJECT: "Alton Road"

Mickey is currently working with Jerry Wright, Jim Maguire (his brother), and Jonathan Rollings in a group they call "Alton Road," the street where Mickey, Jim, and Jerry lived for many years. They play a mix of acoustic guitar and other instruments and cover everything from country to rock n' roll, to Christian Contemporary Music. Their music will inspire you.

Just ordered a Kentucky KM 630, should be in Monday morning. Can't wait to
incorporate into my music. Here's a original tune I wrote and recorded in

This piece follows the Bluegrass Tradition in elements and style.

Subject: The Mandolin That KICKS!!
Date: Wed, 27 Mar 2002 11:44:48 -0600

Dear Mickey and all at Folk Of The Wood,
I want to say a heart-felt thanks to you and your staff. They were very
helpful and courteous. I want to testify to the performance of the Kentucky
KM 630. As stated on your website, this mandolin really cuts through and it
can chop & bark! I am so pleased with it's sound & quality for the price. I
have already incorporated it into my recordings and if there is any doubt
for anyone, the proof is in the 'pudding'. Here again is my orginal of
"Darlin's Brown Eyes" with the Kentucky KM 630. Now, I'm no mandolin player
yet, I'm just learning, but boy what great fun!!! Thanks agian, Ryan
Guilbeau.

This CD has been 30 years in the making ~ Nick and I met in the sixth grade and have been pals ever since ~ We were inspired early on by Nick's brother Greg and his good pal Chris ~ Our passion for music was lit ~ Soon after. Nick and I picked up guitars and started a band ~ Rock led to roll and nearly 3 decades later it happened ~ Chris gave us a tape of Irish tunes and we were hooked ~ Nick plays his trusty Martin D-28 ~ Chris plays his Wheatstone english concertina ~ I play a Trinity College octave mandolin, and Nick's Mid-Missouri M-2 mandolin.

Special thanks to Nick. Besides playing guitar on all the tracks, he recorded and engineered the whole thing at his Valley Glen recording facility, www.postcreations.com.

I finally found some time to record something with my new Gibson Jerry Douglas Dobro...........
I've only been playing Dobro since June when I first received my Regal RD - 45 from you. However
I have been playing banjo and guitar for years. Before I knew it, I had to have this Gibson.  MARTY

Date: Sat, 20 Oct 2001: Thank you all at Folk of the Wood for making the purchase of my new Gibson Jerry Douglas model Dobro such a great experience! You really made it special by enjoying the event along with me. From the original purchase of my Regal RD-45 to my trade up to the Gibson, you were there with me enjoying my journey to an awesome Dobro.

There was no opportunity for me to shop for a Dobro locally. It seems music stores only want to sell guitars and have no interest in offering folk and bluegrass instruments. From time to time I might see a mandolin or banjo hanging forgotten on some music shop's wall, but never a Dobro. Your Video Samplers and 100% guarantee gave me the confidence to purchase an instrument sight-unseen. I have no doubt that we will do business again.

As far as the Gibson Jerry Douglas Dobro......it is fantastic. It has a voice that is often more moving than the song I'm trying to play. Thanks again for being so cool. I'll stop by next time I'm in New Mexico!

Best regards, Marty

"Ashokan Farewell, Jay Unger, written for a close of the fiddle camp at Ashoken sometime around 1980. Made Jay a bunch of money when Kevin Burke used it in the Civil War documentary series." We currently carry Jay Unger's original Ashokan Farewell sheet music for fiddle at FOTW. Contact us for further info.
