Shubb John Pearse Guitar Steel

for Squareneck Dobros

This one was designed by John Pearse, a world-famous string maker, musician and gourmet chef. Because of its length, this one will serve well for 8-string dobros and Hawaiian players who favor a longer steel (3 3/8") and the cutaway bullet tip. This one is also fun to experiment with for all kinds of playing styles on a sqaureneck dobro.

Shubb Peter Grant Guitar Steel
SP-2
for Squareneck Dobros

The SP-2 design was originated by Peter Grant...who is now considered a master of every form of slide guitar. Being a player of great versatility, the focus on the design of this bar was to ensure that it would be a cross-over bar for many styles of squareneck slide playing.

This bar has extra mass, which adds to its overall balance and weight, contributes to more sustain and superb tone. It also has a double cutaway which ensures solid control. If you play a variety of styles, and are looking for one bar to do it all, the SP-2 would truly be the bar of choice.

SP-3
for Squareneck Dobros

This one is designed by Sally Van Meter and Rick Shubb. This one was designed for optimal playing within bluegrass settings. After taking a survey of bluegrass dobro players, Sally and Ricik developed this particular bar to fulfill everyone's expectations.

Sally Van Meter, a well-known Dobro player in bluegrass circles, uses this bar exclusiverly to great effect. I believe this steel was designed for faster runs and quicker pull-offs. Give this one a try and see for yourself.

Shubb Basic Guitar Steel
SP-4
for Squareneck Dobros

Here's a great steel for squareneck resophonic guitars.
This one sets the standard and is styled after the original Stevens Steel. This is the most traditionally shaped and widely accpepted steel for squareneck slide playing.

The same familiar shape that many slide players have used for years, but made with superior craftsmanship. As with all of Shubb Steels, its surfaces are machined (not extreded) for precision, and it is heavily chromed plated (not nickel) for even better dureability.

We regard the Shubb Steel as an evolution of the older designs. Many pro players, who use the Stevens Steel and the SP-4, are so used to the design, it's difficult to change to a newer design such as the SP-2 or the SP-3. If you're just starting, it's recommended to try out all 3 to ensure that you find something that fits you from the beginning.

For the pros who have been long used to the Stevens Steel, we offer the SP-4 Basic Steel as a traditional design without variation from the original Stevens. This way, the pro player can still take advantage of the precision tooling introduced by all Shubb Steels.
