Subject: my very first guitar
howdy, i am looking to purchase an acoustic guitar to learn on. i would like it to be inexpensive so that i can buy a better one later but was wondering what kind you would recomend. i am 20 years old and about 6 feet tall if that has anything to do with the size.
Thanks & Gig 'Em!!
Denise Lancaster
Greetings Denise,
There are many choices...the best way to narrow down these choices is to ask the following:
1. What style of music do you hope to achieve...for instance, if you like country music you'll want a steel string acoustic. If you like bluegrass, you'll want a dreadnought...etc.
2. Have you played very many acoustic guitars? If so, you'll notice that they come in different sizes and shapes...some with cutaways, some without, and so on...my wife likes a small bodied acoustic guitar...she finds it far more comfortable to play than the larger dreadnoughts.
3. What's your budget? Depending on what you've set aside to spend, will certainly, narrow the brand choices...
Good luck with your research...

Dear Mickey,

Thank you for your time Brian
Greetings Brian,
We'd love to assist you in getting the optimal guitar for the best value...
The Epiphone is most definitely a great value...
You might also consider our new line-up of Morgan Monroes (or the new Blueridge Models)...I've found these to be impeccable guitars at the best price-relation-to-features we carry to date...and, still even include a factory Lifetime Warranty!
Please check them out on our website...on the Morgan Monroes, you can choose between the dreadnought, the bowl-back cutaway, or the standard grand auditorium cutaway.
The style of music you hope to achieve would predetermine which model to purchase. For instance, if you hope to play lots of bluegrass, I'd recommend the MND-1 (or one of the new Blueridge Dreadnoughts)...if you hope to play a variety of styles, I'd have to recommend the Serenade.
Here's the line-up:
Morgan Monroe MQD-N Serenade: Retails: 499.00 Current Sale Price: 349.95
Morgan Monroe Journeyman: Retails: 325.00 Current Sale Price: 249.95
Morgan Monroe MND-1 Natural: Retails: 359.00 Current Sale Price: 269.95
Gig Bag Heavily Padded: 59.95 (retail) Current Sale Price: 39.95
Hardshell Case: 119.95 (retail) Current Sale Price: 69.95

I need help, since you know your guitars better than I maybe I know you can
help me.
I want to buy a new guitar. I have had a wonderful full dread Suzuki for
years. It has great sound but its age is hanging out.
I play: Primarily folk and blue grass -- campfire singa longs etc. I do a
lot of fingerpicking and Travis style picking.
Physical parameters: I need a full size pick guard the protect the guitar.
I like the bass heavy tone of a dread. I want a spruce top and closed
mechanics on the tuners. I would prefer a gloss finish. I do not want a
case.
I was going after a Martin DM but i just can't justify the price for my
level of playing. I want something under $500.
Suggestions?
Charles P. Schell IV,
Greetings Charles,
We have some really beautiful, all solid wood Epiphones and Blueridges which I would highly recommend. For folk and bluegrass, you'll most definitely want a solid top dreadnaught style guitar. This is a guitar that was originally designed by Martin and is now available under most mfr names. I also do a lot of fingerstyle guitar work such as ragtime and Chet Atkins style.
In particular, check out the Blueridge BR-6S or BR-2M...
Let me know how I might assist you further...

Can you suggest an acoustic guitar for an adult beginner? I would appreciate
any information. Thank you! J. Cole
Hello,
A lot would depend on the type of music you hope to pursue. For instance, for country, bluegrass or acoustic rock, you'll want a steel string guitar. For classical, flamenco, spanish styles and some pop music you'll want to start on a nylon string guitar.
Now, we have a large variety of both types of acoustic guitars...let me know what style of music you hope to pursue, along with your budget, and I'll be glad to assist you in narrowing your choices. Mickey

My son wants an acoustic guitar. He currently takes lessons on an electric.
He mentioned Fender when looking for an electric, but he doesn't and we
don't know much about acoustic guitars. We want to get him something special
for Christmas. Is this a good gift? He wants to really use it, not just
display it. If not, do you have anything that would be a special, good first
acoustic guitar (but not a student type)? He likes finer things.....Thanks!
Hello...
We have quite a variety of acoustic guitars...from large bodies to small bodies to even acoustic/electric guitars (acoustic/electric guitars are acoustic guitars with built-in pick-up systems)...We have just about any color imaginable for finish styles...We have acoustics priced from 79.00 to 3,000.00...
My question for you would be what style of music is your son interested in pursuing? This would assist me in determining the style of acoustic that would best fit your son.
For instance, an acoustic/electric model would work well for light rock...a dreadnaught acoustic is the only type to play for bluegrass, and a dobro acoustic guitar can work well for blues playing.
Let me know if you have any further questions or if I can assist you with anything else...

He plays fairly hard rock right now, but really likes the style of Jeff
Buckley and Radiohead....Does this help?
Hello again, My recommendation would then be an Acoustic/Electric thinbody series...makes both a great a acoustic guitar that can also be plugged in. I have nephews and sons of my own that are into Metallica and Creed, and they are all going crazy over these Johnson Acoustic/Electric Thinbodies with EQ...especially the translucent blue ones. Mickey
