All of the basics are covered...and most importantly, the focus throughout will be establishing a foundation of proper technique...so that your progress for the many years ahead of you will not be impeded by poor technique and bad habits. How would we define flatpicking guitar? Flatpicking guitar, as a general definition, encompasses the medium of using a flatpick and an acoustic guitar. Therefore, the name itself: Flatpicking guitar...and as many who use it feel the same, is an approach to an acoustic medium as opposed to referring to anything electric. Yes, you can play an electric with a flatpick, and yes, it would still be referred to as flatpicking.

The Mandola is tuned one-fifth lower than a standard mandolin. This gives this instrument its own unique voice. It offers a lower range not available to the standard mandolin...it falls between the Octave and the Mandolin and offers versatility and voicing that every mandolinist should consider for added color...recording, back-up and soloing are all greatly enhanced by the Mandola's voice.

Living in Wichita KS, we have 6 or 7 music shops here, one of which is very large that supports all kinds of musical instruments, equipment, and trained lutheirs for working on them. In visiting with all of them at one time or another, and searching for mandolin instructional DVDs and books, I noticed they do not carry any of yours. After seeing the DVD that I purchased from you when I got my mandolin, they and several instructors have expressed an interest in where I got it.
They would have a few books on the Mandolin, Guitar, Banjo, etc, but
none of the quality and teaching length that yours seem to have. DVDs
like the one I bought of yours are non existant. Russ

Subject: violin arrival
Mickey,
Just wanted to say "Thank You". I finally recevied the violin, I had been waiting for it so long and then upgraded the Cremona and it believe it or not arrived on my birthday! The quality is amazing and more importantly the sound, which is so warm and full and it just carries so well. Needless to say I have a lot of practicing to do, and the advice from your staff was appreciated. I now have a wonderful instrument and I'm playing "Dixie" already, "lefty" and all. Still sounds great. Your DVD (Intro to the Violin and Fiddle) is helping me tremendously.
My next purchase will definitely be from you and will probably be an acoustic guitar. Thanks again,
G. Bruciak

Mickey-Purchased your banjo and new mando DVD. WOW These are really great! I love your instructive approach. After just three weeks on the banjo I am actually able to use my pinky for something! When I saw how great the mando DVD was, I gave it to my son-in-law for Christmas. My daughter purchased a mandolin for him, thru you, and I knew he would really enjoy it. He does! So now I have to order another for myself when my Breedlove arrives.
Thanks for all you do Mickey-Jim

Thread-Topic: Beginning Mandola DVD from Mickey Cochran
I loved that DVD. I wish you would put that on DVD, I don't want my tape to ever break. Can Mr. Corchran ever do an advanced mandola DVD. Very pleased with the product, tons of good information in there.

Subject: Re: Dobro DVD testimonial
Hi Mickey,
Thanks for the prompt reply and your insights. I really appreciate them. I just love my cherry and actually got to speak with Paul about the pickup installation.
I'm glad you've got that editing done. Now I just want to get my hands on #2. You are a very good presenter and I think Mel Bay is lucky to have you in their roster.
I put on CD a cassette tape I made of Jerry Douglas giving a workshop in 1989 at the Strawberry Festival. It was on the Hog Farm radio (the Strawberry Festival records events and broadcasts them on a low power station for festival atendees). So I got to attend the workshop with 20 or so others and record at the same time. Now that I am playin some Reso I thought I would put it on CD. I made a copy for you as well since it has that Under the Wire story on it. I knew I remembered it from somewhere. It was a nice workshop and mostly he's playin and talking about his tunes. It's not for public consumption but I thought you would enjoy a copy.
Looking forward to the next time we can get together in person.
Chuck--
