The order came today. The strap fits perfect and all I have to do is learn
to play standing instead of sitting. I am just beginning so haven't got too
used to sitting yet. The capo is perfect also. I have my mandolin at a
friend's getting the action lowered so it don't eat my fingers so bad, and
will order a strap when I get it back.

Very satisfied with your service and products.

Subject: Strap is very comfortable!
Date: Fri, 19 Dec 2008 12:42:54 -0600

After spending about another 2 hours late last evening with the dobro using the new strap in both sitting and standing positions I am severely impressed with its comfort.
I also was surfing the net looking for metal body dobros and somehow wound up on the "Folk of the Wood" web site and read your short auto-biography there. I am very impressed and pleased to have an instructional DVD from such a person. Some of our lives parallel in many ways.
Anyway, I am very much in awe of your background and happy I ran across your site. By the way, does Folk of the Wood still have any Johnson square neck metal body dobros that they would sell? Also, along with my dobro learning, I spend about an hour a day with the Mandolin and plan to try my hand at learning finger picking as I am a great Jazz fan and fell it would work great for that. I too am a fan of Leo Kottke and Stefan Grossman. I try to picture in my mind Leo's fingers as he plays on Prairie Home companion and I have a "Finger Picking country Blues" book with three CD's from Mel Bay by Stefan Grossman and have learned a lot of new licks as well as going back to pick up what I missed earlier. Learn something new every time!
Well, I truly wish you and your soulmate Shelley the best of Christmas and may the coming new year bring you and she great happiness and love!
Your friend always and a very satisfied customer,

Subject: Dobro strap

I just bought one of your dobro straps. I have to commend you on your service - it was here in less than a week. And, it really is a comfortable strap that keeps my dobro stable. I feel much more confident standing and playing my dobro compared to my old strap. I would like some advice, though. Compared to my old strap (with strings on the peg head), I'm having a little harder time reaching the first fret. I've tried a couple of strap positions, which hasn't made much difference. Can you let me know what you do to reach the first fret? Is it just a question of getting used to pushing the strap out of the way, or is there something else?

Thanks again for the great strap. I'm sorry that I didn't find out about you before I bought my current dobro!

Norm

Greetings Norm,

Thanks for touching base with us...
I wish I could see this in person...I haven't had a problem using mine...Maybe I need more close-up pictures on installation....it does seem to be a little tighter to play in the first position. I guess I've gotten used to it...

I take it you've seen the images on the following page:
http://www.folkofthewood.com/page627.htm

If you find that you can't adapt to reaching the first fret, you might be able to install it further up the peghead...(depending on the peghead)
